Mumbai to Goa by train is quit an experience! We decided to take the day train so we could see more of India! At 7 o'clock in the morning we started on our 13 hour train ride!
Josh hasn't seen so many people pooing in an hour in the train then in his whole life! Hahahahaha! Same for me too. They all sit on the unused railtrack and use it as a toilet! Not good still waking up!
Also, we still have to get used to the little scams of India. Josh got himself a nice cheap bottle of whiskey on the train... They asked us if we wanted a beer!! And after like 8 hours in the train we would love to have a cold beverage. But unfortunatly they didn't have beers and they offered us whiskey and coke. Josh got a whole bottle instead of just a glass. Haha.. now we are travelling with a bottle of whiskey!
But all good.. we made to Panaji at 8.20pm. Tired, hungry, sore but in one piece!
Old Goa The next day early in the morning we jumped in a rickshaw up to Old Goa. This was once
the capital of Goa with all the churches and cathedrals. A booming city back in the days you could compare it to Lisbon! But now just remaining the churches and of course the little souvenier shops!
We had a wander around and walked from one huge church to another. We came across one of the biggest in Asia. Interesting to see more Hindu people then christians in the churches. After walking around for 2 hours or so we where thirsty as!
Finding ourselves a little restaurant to order two nice cold cokes and sit in the shade. Or atleast that's what we thought. Josh's coke was perfect, but mine wasn't after having a big sip! (imagine being really thirsty and taking a big sip) No bubbles to find, not tasting fresh, .... really dead coke! I pulled a face an Josh took the coke away.. Just after seeing something float in the coke.. looking like a fetus!
Panaji/Panjim After my coke incedent we had to stay a bit longer around in Panaji also called Panjim. Cause you can imagine it already! Having the shits and travelling is not a good idea!
Anjuna Finally leaving Panjim we
jumped on a local bus to Anjuna... A beautifull little beach town in the north of Goa.
We got tremendously burned on our first day! So our solution was to rent a scooter and not spend to much time on the beach! Josh took us up to Vagator the next town up north! We wanted to visit a fort on top of a lookout.. But by the time we arrived there it was already 50 degrees and not possible to hike a hill!
Anjuna is a place where you can't walk around without getting harassed from all the colourfull little shops along the beach road.
Palolem Going from Anjuna all the way down south of Goa to Palolem by public busses was a mission! To many people in a small little bus gets to you after 3 hours!
With us not planning to much we didn't book ourselves a hostel and found out that most of them where fully booked! But we still managed to find ourselves a little hide-away just off the beach.
Palolem is really a town where you just chill on the beach and drink a lot! Because of the tourism the food was amazing..
But it was quite expensive!
We rented a scooter again! Drove for ages (avoiding cows, trucks, rickshaws on the road) to get to a wildlife sanctuary to find a dead snake, lots of rain, we freaked out and turned back again.
After this mission we decided to chill out on the beach for a change, haha.
Now we are back where we started in Panjim/Panaji to get an overnight bus to Hampi our next destination!
Over and out!
Peace and love!
