Today we had a nice 1 1/2 hour drive down to San Diego to go to Sea World, I say nice because it is quite picturesque as on the right you can see the ocean and to the left are some ranges.
On arrival at San Diego Sea World it was overcast and windy (Didn't last too long though before it sunned up). We got our park maps and headed towards the Sea Otters, they were very cute and swam around and around on their backs. Next door to the Otters were the Dolpins. They had some great viewing areas to see them from different angles.
The first show we saw and were quite chuffed about seeing, was the Cirque de la Mer. They are so talented with their acrobatics and the girls loved their colourful costumes. Definently makes us want to see a full "Cirque" performance.
We were on our way to see Shamu, the world famous killer whale but on the way managed to see the "World of the Sea" Aquarium and the girls got to touch and handle Starfish at the Tide Pool.
The Shamu Show, "Believe" was just amazing. A definite highlight so far. The girls sat
in the front row and we sat in row 12. When we walked into the stadium it had written, "Splash Zone" Rows 1 -16. There were people walking around selling ponchos - at this point Stu and I were glad we were sitting back in row 12 (and not row 1 like the girls). The show started and the Killer Whales were beautiful and boy can they jump high. Towards the end of the show they started slapping their tails on the water and that's when the splashing started. The girls got absolutely soaked and so did most people up to row 16. We were lucky sitting in the section we were because for some reason the splashes went right around us. You have to see it to believe it!
By this time it was 1pm so we decided to go and have some lunck. We went to a Smoke House (Danika was not impressed as there was a LOT of meat) and ordered a mixed sampler plate for Stu, Zavanna and I. Dani had French Fries (FF) and Salad. The sampler plate was just delicious. It had ribs, brisket, some other sort of meat, FF, corb cob dripping in
butter and chicken. Yum Yum. The flavour was beautiful as the food is cooked over a bbq using mesquite wood.
Then we went on an adventure to the "Wild Arctic" where we first went on a simulator that was a helicopter going through a storm. Zavanna thought we were in a real helicopter. When that finished we went on a walk through to see the Beluga Whales - just gorgeous, a Polar Bear and Walrus. They even had interactive activities for the kids on the way through.
Next was the Penguin Encounter where we went through on a slow moving belt and saw heaps of different penguins in their enclosure.
The Shark Encounter was next where we walked through and saw lots of different species of sharks. We even got to go underneath the tanks and walk through from under. Very cool.
Our last show of the day was the Sesame Street "Lights, Camera, Imagination! It was a cute show in 4D, like the Shrek 4D. It had all the characters and they all played their special roles.
As it was nearly 6pm we decided to get a move on back to the hotel but not before seeing the Sea
Turtles and Otters again.
Again, a lovely view driving home. Disneyland again tomorrow afternoon.
