Super Monday Down Under

It was another lazy sea day aboard the Volendam in the Tasmanian Sea. We got a late start having lost another hour to get to New Zealand time so headed to the Dining Room for a late breakfast before posting the previous day’s blog.

Later that morning we went to the Theater to see “Cooking with Drew” where they had the Cruise Director making a Black Forrest Cake with the Executive Pastry Chef and an audience member. It was pretty funny but no one wanted to eat his creation for some reason.

We had Lunch in the Dining Room Hamburger for me and Flounder for John. We then headed back to the Culinary Arts Center for a demonstration on decorating cupcakes that looked like ears of corn, Sheppard’s pie, and peas & Carrots.

Most of the normal daily activities were in the Crow’s Nest or Theater because of some football game they were showing in the main Lounge. They had that set up with a full bar and had also moved in the lounge chairs from the Explorations Café to auction off as VIP Seating. The game was also on in the Sports bar and on TV in the cabins. There were still quite a few people out doing the other activities though most of them were the Canadians.

It was then time for Trivia in the Crow’s Nest. We were joined by the British couple who we’d played Name that Tune with the night before. There was also one woman just up there to read who gave us a good clue on the Janet Leigh movie from 1960. We ended up in 2nd place again which wasn’t bad considering some of the questions were tricky. Maybe today we’ll get first.

We then hit the Casino for a bit but John didn’t make out well at the Blackjack table and I didn’t do any better at the Video Poker or Jackpot Party. So it was then time for Bingo in the Theater. John came close the first couple of games and had to stand when he was 1 away but the last game was mine and I won about $250 with the coverall game. These games didn’t count towards the snowball so the payouts were a bit higher than normal.
John’s Valentine’s Day gift was a deep muscle massage at the onboard spa. We had made the reservation the day before. His therapist was Elvira. We thought this was to last one-half hour but it took almost one and one-half hours to work the two knots out of his back. It was then nearly 6pm and time to get all frocked up for dinner. He looked very handsome in his Tux as we headed to the Dining Room. We were joined by couples from Toronto, Iowa, and Houston and had a very nice long dinner. John had the Lobster which he said was the best he’d every had and I had the Sirloin steak which was a bit tough. Dessert was the Chocolate Avalanche cake and Vanilla Napoleon (you can probably guess which of us had which). We ended the night with the Ventriloquist show which was pretty funny. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him before on another Dam ship.

Tomorrow is another sea day but we’ll be scenic cruising thru the New Zealand Fiordland National Park

Super Monday
Hi Guys, I thought I would give you both a break and only send one e-mail for the last 2 entries. Everythings sounds so interesting especially the coverall game. Congratulation Sharon on your win. Pictures were great. Sharon you are brave holding the Wombat. I don't think I could do that. I think I can figure out who had the Chocolate Avalanche cake. The food sounds very good. We have more snow today, so Sharon be very glad you are gone from Ohio right now. We had 6" now we are getting much more. They say we might get 3-5 more inches. Take care, Janet
