Sound of Music Day
Today I woke up quite early and took a shower! Oh it felt so good to take a shower. I was still nervous about everybody not speaking English. But I got dressed and ready for the day anyway. At 8 am I went down for breakfast. I had a bread, jam, butter, cereal with lukewarm milk. Kakao and coffee along with a glass of mineral water. The milk was whole but I t was cold, so that was aight. Then at 845 I went outside to waite for shuttle to come to take me to my sound of music tour. I was scared at first that I might have missed it cuz I was a feminutes late, but I didn’t two other girls from my hostel were going as well. So that relieved me a bit. And the tour would be in English another relie.f the tow girls were form argentine (Buenos aires). I tried my best to speak Spanish with them, and their names are Victoria and Manuela. Our shuttle driver was crazy ant hat made me a bit worried but we stopped at a nother hotsel and picke dup a single middle aged man. He

was from Toronto Cnanada. We then were ont to the meeting spot for the beginning of the tour Our first stop was the Do Re Mi song ending in the park with the statues and stairs. It was a lot smaller than I thought a nd most of it was a off limites becuas it was wintere but I still was able to walk around the fountain. Also the steps and, just about everything in this park surprised me because it looked a lot more larger in the movie than it did in real life. Then, we climbed a board a couach and the four of us were joined by a mother and daughter pair from Spain and trio from Japan. Later an Australian couple came aboard. So, ifyou are keeping track I am the ONLY American on the tour and I am the only person of my “agegroup” on the tour. I definitely am the youngest kid on this tour. The tour was so COOL and I learned a LOT about the making of the movie. We also formed a singing group of the tour group! That was the best because I know every word to every song in

the movie and the Tour Guide was so impressed that someone of my generation would know all that about the movie. I told him it is my favorite. One thing I learned as well, is that the Youngest Von Trapp is actually still alive and runs the family hotel and museum in Stowe, Vermont. Altogether there were 10 Von Trapp kids. And Maria was not the nice Maria as depicted in the movie…she was basically like the captian in the beginning, expect that Von Trapp children, don’t play, They Sing!!! LOL, I made a funny. Also, it was interesting ot learn that all the scens shot in side, except for the wedding, were shot in Hollywood. The wedding and all the scenes shot outside were filmed in Salzburg. And each area was a very different spot. The eiditing must have been state of the art for that time….after we driving around Salzburg, we then drove into the Mountains to see the mountains, lakes and villages formt he opening scene. It was really beautfitful and fascinating even though it was a very very cloudy foggy day. Then we wernt to the church where Maria and the Captain go married in the

movie but I twas being renovated so it was hard to see a lot of the paintings, but the alrter was open and gorgeous. And the aild was a lot shorter than the movie makes it out to be. I even walked down it!!! HAhaha…After that I had some really good apple streudel with vanilla at the cafe with all the people form the tour. I ate a tht esmae table as the guy form Toronto. Then we got back on the bus and dorve down to Salzburg. We got off there and I tipped the guide for doing a good job, but not a lot because I didn’t have much money. Roman was the tour gidoe and peter was the drivier. I then took the bus back to the hostel with Victoria and Manuel. Then, we had lunch and they wante dot watch the movie. But I stayed with them for a bit. I then went out to expolore Salzburg. I walke around ta shopping plaza, walked across a bridge and found my way to the train station. I was able to get a ticket to munich and then an overnight to Torino for 56 Euro!!!! That was a lot cheaper than I thought it woubld be. I wlake the way back and went ot an internet café and uploaded photos on to my scandisk. Chekced my e-mail and wan tnot. Then at about 5pm most of the shops were closing so I went back to the hostel cuz I didn’t know what do. But they were showing the Olympics and at 8pm they were showing the Sound of Music...again!!! So, i went and had a salami pizza for dinner, wrote some letters home, and had a couple cups of what is called Mulled Wine---SO Good!!! It so is a small world because while i was sipping my wine, eating my pizza and watching the movies some Americans came along. I found out they were from Notre Dame and that they were studying in London. And they were from the same program that the other intern I will be working with in Parliament is from! Such small world! Oh and it was sure a great day!
