So, today was the last day of Czech Intensive class... We took our test yesterday, so we were all wondering WHY we were required to go to class today. Well, I am glad I did. Or I may have missed out! We all shlepped our way to class at 9am.. but our professor was late. He finally showed up around 930am (at this point we were all wishing we were in the US because of the 15 minute rule!). He walked in with a smile- and his what..his guitar?? He unzipped the case and told us to turn to the last page in our Czech language booklets, where there are pictures of foaming beer and czech verses about pivo.. Yes, we all did learn at least one word during czech intensive..pivo..BEER. He ran through the lines a couple times without the guitar, and then he began strumming. And then we all began singing traditional Czech drinking songs- a necessary part of the Czech language class, or course. Then at 10:00.. our professor stopped and looked at the clock. Well, the pub doesnt open until 10:30, so take a break, and then let's get beers. Everyone was stunned.. everyone had the
most puzzled, "are you for real" look on their faces. Nevertheless, at 10:30am, we took a class "fieldtrip" to the pub and we all drank a half liter of beer. It was then that our professor told us why he was late.
"Ohh I was out last night with my colleagues. We were drinking pivo, and having great time." Of course this is normal to American standards.. but what came next.. not so much.
"I told my colleagues.. 'I have to go! I have to grade my American students' tests', but they told me 'no, grade them at the pub!' I tried to grade them at the pub, but I drank too much pivo! I stay at pub until 5:00am! When I come home, my wife ask me 'Where were you last night?' So I grade your tests when I wake up this morning, but I wake up too late." Only in Prague would this happen! Oh and I did fine on my test, which means I get three credits for a ten day class woot woot 😊 I am going to a Czech hockey game tonight, tomorrow Vienna with the girls, class for a day, then Poland
for 5 days! Stay tuned!
