I woke up at 6am, took a shower, packed really quick, and we were off to Vienna. We took the tram to the metro, and the metro to the bus station. All of us fell asleep right away and it was a decent bus ride besides our unfortunate seating next to the "bathroom." Our bus left Prague around 8 and the seven of us arrived in Vienna at about 12:30. The first thing we did was make our way to our hostel to get rid of the heavy backpacks! I hate to say it, but the hostel was nicer than our dorm in Prague! It was seven of us in an eight person room... hmmm who could our mystery roommate be? When we opened the door, all the beds were empty besides one, where the mystery roommate's bag lay. We inspected the outside of the bag, curious about who we would be spending the night with. The bag sported an American flag, the first clue! Then we read the name tag Clayton from Las Vegas. Clayton can be a girls name right? Kind of like Chandler? We convinced ourselves so...to be continued later...
So we went to get some lunch
because we were all STARVING.. We tried this cute Austrian cafe.. I had goulash which was SO good.. much better than I've had in Prague. I also had my first Viennese coffee. I ordered an ice coffee and it was served with ice cream! We noticed that people are a lot nicer in Vienna than Prague! More helpful, more smiles, more friendly. Then we made our way over to St. Stephen's Cathedral. It was absolutely beautiful. We went inside where someone was playing the organ and there were a few worshipers. We even climbed the tower, SO..MANY.. STAIRS. But it was an incredible view from the tower.. totally worth the 3.50Euros! After St. Stephens, we took a tram around the city perimeter to check out what we wanted to see the next say. The architecture is so different in Vienna compared to Prague. There are sharper angles, and the buildings are all mostly white, gray or light yellow, whereas in Prague, its more curvy and colorful. We walked around and saw some street performers break dancing, then got some dinner at a vegetarian asian place. It was good and they gave us free dessert shots.. pretty cool. At around 9:30pm
we returned to the hostel..
We had some wine, and we were planning to get ready to go out,but when we arrived to our room, our roomie was sleeping with the lights off.. We made some jokes about how our roommate was lame, and tried to be quiet as we got ready. We noticed that Clayton had very short hair, so we went downstairs to determine the gender.. Turns out, Clayton was an 80yr old man. We were all in hysterics about this as we passed the word quietly around the room.. "Pssst..Clayton's not a girl, he's an elderly man." to be continued.. (again)
We went to a rock club which was close to our hostel. There were a lot of locals and it was a very laid back place. We met a few people, had a couple drinks, and called it a night because we were so tired from waking up so early!
We came back to the hostel quietly as not to wake our sleeping roommate, Clayton, brushed our teeth, etc. We were all in bed besides Kelly who was in the bathroom. Suddenly Clayton shuffled a little bit, and got out of bed. To
our horror, the man was completely naked heading for the bathroom where Kelly was. He waited his turn outside the bathroom.. Kelly opened the door, saw a naked 80yr old man before her. Her eyes just widened in terror and she ran and dove into her bed. The next morning we woke up to the same display as Clayton shuffled his way around the room, getting ready to leave. My first hostel experience..
