This trip we were not looking forward to at all, going from Mt Elizabeth to Home Valley Station. It was only about 220km's but this was going to be along the worst part of the gibb, well so we were told.
Well we were told correct, it took us around 6 hrs to do 220kms yes you herd right....6HOURS!!!!!! Most of which was in 3rd gear doing about 40k's. We have never seen so many people pulled over to change a popped wheel, or there shocks had been trashed.
We had alot of people passing us as we were taking it slow and easy and then 50k's up the road they have pulled over as they had a blow out.
But the 1 that stays in our minds were these 4 guys in a cruiser towing a boat had pulled over cause they popped there 1st tyer so we asked if they were all good and we got the thumbs up so kept going then 10mins later they passed us doing about 80k's then about 10kms down the road a 2nd blow out but we got the thumbs up again so we kept going and yet again they passed us
doing 80k's. Then 10 more mins down the road they had pulled over for the 3rd time, this time they had another blow out and done a axle on there trailer. We pulled ova and had a chat with them and they said that they are all out of spares after this so they will have to take it slow and easy which they never did as they still passed us after about 20 mins after having to a bit more work on the cruiser this time.
These guys were crazy and wasted alot of money on all the blow outs they had.
We would have passed about 6-8 diff cars pulled over along this part of the gibb who had blow outs. But i bet that the people at Home Valley Station were laughing because that was the closest place to get them all fixed and they were all pouring in the day that we got there. The only punchure we got was on Axel's bike and they gave us a patch for free so that didnt even cost us 😊.
We even saw someone who had stayed 1 night and left in the morning and was only gone
for about 1/2 hour and had to turn around and get it fixed cause they got a blow out just a few km's up the road.
This was where they took alot of the shots for the movie "Australia" as you can see in our pics.
We all including Graham and Gloria had a well deserved beer or 2 or 3 in the "Dusty Bar" at the station, they also had a huge pool and play ground for the kids so Axel was in his glory with all the kids to play with. We stayed here 3 nights and didnt want to leave but knew what was next (El Questro) so were looking forward to that. Troy even paid for a fishing trip so him and Graham went for a half day trip and both came home with a Barra each. So we had fresh fish for dinner that night.
It was very nice here and well deserved after that horid day of all the huge ruts in the road, Troy and I even had sore stomach from everything bouncing around inside.
Oh and the 1st pic i have published is of a car we had passed while
at Mt Elizabeth that some locals had been driving with his wife and 3 kids in after he had been drinking and smoking to much and crashed just that day.
