VIENNA A
Sebastian, Angie & Andrea Day 31 (Friday - 3 Oct): SALZBURG A
After my last night in Vienna (quite rough since the first part of the evening, Markus and I spent drinking some beers at their place whilst the ladies went to Cirque du Soleil, before going out to a South African pub and the Rhiz Club until early in the morning...), I left the so far most eastern point on my journey for a short one night visit in Salzburg to visit Gisi & Michi.
The ride to Salzburg along the Danube through the Wachau was very nice, until it started raining. However, after a short bit on the motorway, the weather was clearing up again, and so i drove the last bit to Salzburg via the beautiful Salzkammergut (Bad Ischl, St. Wolfgang). Lovely!
Chef Michi had already prepared a great asian menu (pumpkin cream soup followed by noodles with chicken) - the ideal hot food since temperatures were dropping dramatically that night!
After a visit at their recently bought new home (they haven't moved in yet) we spent the rest of the evening in a great beer bar, having lots of - surprise! - beers and also some Jaegermeister shots. Cool!
Day
VIENNA A
Markus & I 32 & 33 (Saturday & Sunday - 4/5 Oct): MUNICH D
After a quick visit in the beer bar where I had forgotten my photo camera the night before, I took the motorway through the Bavarian mountains (covered with snow!) to Munich to meet up with some of my friends at the Oktoberfest.
Since I didn't have a room reservation, I did not even try to find an inner city room but headed to the outskirts directly where I found a dodgy pension, lead by some Arab guys and with only male Russian/Polish/?? guests. hmmmm.... however, what to expect for €20 a night, and anyway, I only stayed there for a couple of hours, and so I was glad to meet Monica in a beer tent, a Spanish friend I had met in Cologne one evening during carnival a couple of years ago. Great fun to see her again!
Then I met up with Eva (London) and her friends Peter & Paul, Nixe, Verena, etc....! Excellent fun until the very end of the evening!
On Sunday I went for the Fruehschoppen in one of the beer tents from 11:30 to 15:00 before going back to the pension to have a
couple of hours of sleep...
Later on, I met up with Eva, Nixe, Verena & Myriam in one of the beer tents where we stayed until the official end of the 2008 Oktoberfest. Kind of a sad moment, however, definitely not the worst for our livers...
Of course this wasn't the end, and so we continued in the Kaefer bar where we've had lots of fun. In fornt of the toilets I've even crossed Hasan "Brazzo" Salihamidzic, a former FCBayern superstar who allowed me to take a picture with him. Unfortunately, I had lost Verena & Myriam in the crowds, and so I took a cab home to get some more sleep.
Day 34 & 35 (Monday & Tuesday - 5/6 Oct): MUNICH D - WETTINGEN - BERN - GENEVA CH
On monday morning I left Munich and took country roads all the way down to the Austrian/Swiss border from where I headed to Wettingen via Sargans and Zuerich. Nice to be back in a familiar environment! Of course I needed to stop at (in)famous Calypso Grill in the Zuerich Niederdorf where they sell (no kidding!) the very best curry wurst in the world!!!! Soooooooooper-yummie!!!!
The evening I spent
at my parent's place in Wettingen, and on Tuesday morning I went for a relaxing treat at the local thermal spa in Baden. My mom helped me to clean Pearl in the afternoon (she was reallydirty), and she looked as beautiful as ever afterwards.
In the eveing, heading towards Geneva, I had a quick stopover in Bern to visit Annika and have some dinner with her. Was really great to have a chat with her again, and I'm looking forward to seeing her Canada pictures the next time.
So after exactly 5 weeks on the road I was back from where I started. Good to be home, eventhough I wouldn't have mind to continue for another while...
So here some statistics of my EU Road Trip:
- Duration: 5 weeks (35 days)
- kms done with Pearl: 6,991km
- Fuel consumption: approx. 650 liters (!)
