This is a picture of one of the maps Kaitlyn took at the train station. That way we could look at the picture on the camera if we needed some redirection!
Super spontaneous weekend!!!! Yeah I went there... Seriously this past weekend was a true roller coaster. Friday we decided to just relax, and hang out all night and just enjoy the atmosphere of Newcastle from our apartment. Granted Mark played xbox and Kaitlyn was in the tub soaking with a box of bubble bath relaxing salts (her new friend).

Saturday, Mark got up and did some shopping for Kaitlyn's birthday present (yes he got it picked out and everything) and it looked like a nice day... well warm weather and some what sunny skies... yeah I know our definition of good weather has drastically changed since being here. After picking up Kaitlyn's present, we decided it was time for some lunch and wondering around. First come lunch and there was the ever trusty Subway... (yes we know we are in England and yes we are eating Subway... deal...) and in our infinite wisdom decided to eat outside and enjoy the weather. Of course with our awesome luck, it started raining and got very cold and the sun left us for the rest of the day. Oh well, on to the museum! We went to the Laing (pronounced Lane) Gallery and

pretty much was through it and out in about 30 minutes. Very very small place, with not that many pieces of art to enjoy. Oh well. We decided to do some much needed shopping and why not in the rain, right? After a few hours of wondering around and getting soaked, we had purchased a new frame (long story but the maids broke one of our frames). The rest of the evening was movies and relaxing!

Sunday, oh Sunday...
On Saturday, we decided that we needed to do something fun. So Sunday, we went to the train station and found the first train to Alnmouth which would take us to Alnwick which has a wonderful garden and castle. Up to the ticket counter we went, purchased 2 round trip tickets and then went to Alnmouth. Now, there is no real direct way to get to Alnwick from the train station, but it didn't look to far on the map. Therefore, we got the bright idea of deciding to just walk it. Great in theory, but bad in practice. The road didn't have a walking path and was very winding and hilly. It was very nerve-racking due to hoping we

wouldn't get hit! But, we made it in one piece and really enjoyed the castle and wonderful garden. We took tons of video this trip so I (Mark) won't go into much detail as the videos really are much better to watch then to try and read my descriptions. I (Mark) am really not to sure how much history I go into on the castle and background of it all but for the most part you can find everything out about it here . So please enjoy and if you have questions... look them up :P

This was a very fun day though and we made it back (took the bus to the train station) and truly had a fun and spontaneous day!

Since it was Sunday, the buses were a bit less frequent than on other days. We had already decided to just walk to Alnwick, but this was just verifying we were headed the right way.
On the right road.On the right road.
On the right road.

Yes! We located the right road we were supposed to be on! Go us!!!

Mark is just a bit tired. But the good news is we are on Alnwick Road!!!
We ran out of sidewalk. We ran out of sidewalk.
We ran out of sidewalk.

The highway we were walking on ran out of sidewalk. Therefore, Mark walked in back of Kaitlyn so the cars could see his red fleece and so there was a less likely chance of us getting hit.

This is what a view of "out in the middle of nowhere" looks like!

We're cracking up...
We're reading your entries and laughing as we are reliving our 2 years there. First, yes!!! we agree. You're concept of good weather dramatically changes. Billy Connolly once said, there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. So we noticed you were having "good weather," and we noticed your both wearing your fleece jackets...while it's mid-90's here. LOL! I didn't notice you mention that Alnwick is also known as the "Harry Potter Castle," as several scenes in the first 2 or 3 movies were shot there. Several movies have been shot at Alnwick Castle...it's really a nice castle. Amazing that a Duke still lives there.
