Super spontaneous weekend!!!! Yeah I went there... Seriously this past weekend was a true roller coaster. Friday we decided to just relax, and hang out all night and just enjoy the atmosphere of Newcastle from our apartment. Castle Grounds 4

Victorian Cross

This is the English version of the Congressional Medal of Honor. One of the Percy Family sons was awarded this and his father was so proud he had it stamped into the side of the castle...

Percy Bridge

This was the bridge that had to be put in because when the Duchess had the river rerouted they needed a way to cross it to get to the castle. So this was the obvious choice... build a bridge.

Catle Miniature

Here is a miniature of the front of the castle during a siege.

Archer's Cross

Here is a nice artistic picture of an archer's cross. This would have been for defenses. The archer would have placed the arrow in the open area to fire on the enemy without having to reveal to much of himself.

Here we are on the Hotspur... Lord Hotspur was one of the more famous leaders of the Percy family and this section of the castle was named after him.

We're cracking up...
We're reading your entries and laughing as we are reliving our 2 years there. First, yes!!! we agree. You're concept of good weather dramatically changes. Billy Connolly once said, there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes. So we noticed you were having "good weather," and we noticed your both wearing your fleece jackets...while it's mid-90's here. LOL! I didn't notice you mention that Alnwick is also known as the "Harry Potter Castle," as several scenes in the first 2 or 3 movies were shot there. Several movies have been shot at Alnwick Castle...it's really a nice castle. Amazing that a Duke still lives there.
