Titahi Bay Surfers
Titahi Bay, a northern suburb of Wellington, where we spent many days and nights on the beach.Making our way across the Cook Strait, Wellington welcomed us with a nice beach at Titahi Bay to stay at and surfers to watch. The 'windy' city, as it is known, did not let us down, but winded us with warmer air than the South. Wellington is an older city with beautiful buildings climbing up its many hillsides. The beach paths were always full of active kiwis with their dogs, kids, bikes, skateboards or friends.
There are many museums, art galleries, film archives showcasing Wellington's art community and filming hub. We enjoyed a day at the Te Papa Museum learning some of the history of the land and its earthquakes and volcanoes that have carved out what we see today, among many other interesting features such as the iron car, old instruments, earthquake simulators, and more taxidermy than one could shake a sheep at. We covered about four floors of exhibits before our legs and minds had had their fill... and the best part was that it was free!
The inner streets of downtown were congested and confused us so we took time to enjoy some leisurely drives around the ocean and bays. We got Tui an oil change
but turned down the recommended "spa" treatments, not that Tui isn't worth $600 of pampering, but with only a few weeks to go we decided not to fix what wasn't broken. With Tui all ready to hit the streets, we would head north to explore as much of the North Island as possible, beginning up the East Coast.

Sounds like you will find something cool around every corner there in New Zealand!! TUi is looking good in that last picture... why don't you buy her a plane ticket home too!?
