Cath: Well we have just spent a week on the Caribbean coast in a little town called Cahuita. It was so different on this coast with a definite Caribbean vibe, from the food to the people to the music (lots of Bob Marley). The town has a beautiful beach which is part of the national park..... just a little bit like gutting for a girl with a blue pot on her arm!! I seemed to be good gauping material for most people.... think they were just jealous!
While Richard worked for a while on the turtle project in the park sleeping in dorms with 2 hours of electricity I managed to bag myself a deluxe wooden cabin on stilts right next to the park. I had a lovely porch with a hammock to hang out in as it got a bit hot for the arm to be wandering about. The cabins were in gorgeous tropical gardens that the owners have been working on for 15 years. I sat and watched amazing birds that came into the garden with my two NBFs, the owner's cat and dog! A troop of howler monkeys came into the trees around the garden just

This is the view from my little porch about every day and were just fantastic to watch.... they would come right past my porch. Howler monkeys don't like anything thats louder than them.... whether its a lawn mower or thunder they just start "howling" at it which is pretty amusing! They were putting in a pond in the gardens and had a concrete mixer going one day... the monkeys all went into the tree above the mixer and spent the afternoon howling/shouting at it!
Rich managed to hire a bike and would cycle out of the park each day to visit me bless him. Check out the pics though she was a beauty and I suspect the first and last time you will see him with a basket on his bike! We managed a cerveza or two on our last nights with some gorgeous seafood and we are definitely looking forward to heading that way again.
On our last day we went to a sloth sanctuary started by a lady who hand reared an injured orphan sloth 15 years ago and now she is the sloth guru! They try to introduce them back to the wild when they can but if they are under a year
old they have to hand rear them which makes it a bit more difficult. We met quite a few of all different ages (some were only a few weeks old).....they are so so very very cute - I'm not sure I can describe just how amazingly endearing they are. Only the very hard hearted could refrain from falling in love with these animals. They reach out to be hugged and its just so hard not to touch! One only had one arm as he had been burnt by an electric wire, and another 2 week old one all bandaged up that had been found full of maggots and close to death. Heart wrenching stuff as they are such cool animals.... I think the dolphin is the only other mammal to have a constant smile!
We have now just popped back to San Jose to see the doc. Can not WAIT to get the cast off .... have been pretty grouchy and fed up with it in the heat. I'm definitely ready to have my arm back thank you!

Hello, I have been following your blog as we are heading to CR in August and spending three months. Could you please provide some details on this experience? What was the name of the cabins? How did you arrange to volunteer at the park? Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.
