Well what can i say, it was a interesting lol! We decided to head to Krati as it is known for being a nice little town which you can go to see dolphins at so we thought why not! We decided to go there on the 6.45 bus from Phnom Phen which would take around 6 hours so on monday night we headed out to our usual hot spot-The Drunken Frog, our quiet night was changing as the night went on....it ended up being a very drunken fun filled night! We had 'few' bevvies then decided we fancied a dance so headed to The Heart of Darkness which was amazing, danced the night away and met some nice folk, at 3.45 we left there and headed back to the Frog where we stayed and partied until 6am, we left there a little worse for wear and went to pick up bag at hostel, we were leaving big ones with hostel and jus taking wee ones so we got them, checked out hostel, went to shop n got our Egg Mayo baguettes, which we are now addicted to, and headed for bus! Now i am telling the story i understand why our bus dudes were laughing at us! We got wee mini van to bus terminal where we sat whilst getting laughed at by 3 older Cambodians who kept saying i had big eyes (due to the alcohol i think lol) we then attempted to get on worng bus but our 3 men told us it wasnt ours so we then eventually got correct one and headed off! the bus journey from what i can remember was filled with us giggling, munching on our baguettes and sleeping! We have a couple of stops on route which unforunately again for me meant i had to use the dreaded and very minging squatting loos but needs must so i got on with it. We then arrived at what we thought was Krati so off me and Laura went with bags on and Charlie (our lonely planet guide) in arm looking for our hostel, after about a 20 minute walk down a hill then back up, through marsh land, with everyone staring at us we realised we didnbt have a bloody clue where we were so Laura thought letas head back to bus stop and ask the men, thank god she did as once back there the driver whilst laughing at us told us we were infact not in Krati but we had only stopped for a break-what wallies we were! So after laughing at ourselves we got back on bus and continued for another hour or so until we finally reached our destination of Krati! (before leaving bus we double checked with driver it was infact Krati this time lol)
So off we went looking for a guesthouse which we found just 2 streets down called The Star Guesthouse, it was perfect-basic room with 2 nice sized beds, clean, had mossie nets and a clean large bathroom with shower-perfecto! So we dumped our stuff and headed out to explore what Krati had to offer, which we found to be very little. It was a nice wee town but OMG they do stare! We walked down the street to find everyone and i do mean everyone looking at us as if we were from another planet, it was to say the least overwhelming especially when a couple of locals decided they needed pictures of us and took out their mobiles to take them! Madness!!! I felt like i was a famous star but it wasnt nice, just strange! Nways we decided after walk aroung the small market where all the woman pointed to my skin and rubbed it that we should go back to the hostel so we did for another egg mayo baguette-the addiction was worsening lol! We then went to room with some munchies to cure the hangover and have a chill out. We had both fallen asleep, i awoke to find a few beasties in room (very similar in looks to a cockroache and flew which we later discovered) but i let them go and headed back to sleep, i was very shortly then awoke by the sound of screaming, it was Laura so of course i jumped up to find Laura freaking out with the flying cockroache looking beasties, i was in hystericsm, this was very quickly stopped when i realised the size of the ones she was freaking out over! They were large and they were flying fast! We both freaked! There all of a sudden seamed to be a miassive load of them flying and crawling everywhere so after hitting some with out shoes and books we decided our best bet would be to pull down the nets and hide on our beds but no the plan was quickly dampned when we seen there was loads on the nets too, after jumping about like loonies and laughing we though lets just go for it, pull the nets down and get these things to *France* so we did! I felt like the very missed Steve Irwin of flying cockroache looking beasties-i was armed with my flip flop and book and out to get them! We got the nets down and jumped in the beds where we had to then basically tucked the nets into, we were trapped in our beds but my god it felt good cause none could get at us, once we calmed down we then decided it would be fun to ping the ones on our nets at each other, my god the things that keep you entertained-we hade about a hour of fun doin this! We then chilled out and just read our books and wrote our journals, we then fell to sleep.
In the morning we got up, beastie free, and got ready, we got some brekkie, yes you guessed it-a egg mayo baguette then headed to the dolphin conservation centre. We hired bikes as it was only a hours ride away, the cycle was brilliant, we cycled alongside the river wich was lovely and then through a road with houses along side-very nice! When i say houses these are basically wooden huts in which the locals live, they are a must see with your own eyes as you would not believe otherwise, most of the people sit outside their houses so the whole way lietrally everyone (adults and children) where shouting hello to us and smiling, cheering, it was unbelievable how friendly Cambodians are, the kids wanted to high five you and shake your hand, it was again overwhelming and totally amazing! After about a hour and a half we arrived, we had to keep stopping for water as very hot! When we were buying some more water Laura was literally thrown a baby at her, she didnt have a clue what to so as it was such a shock, we were just standing then a guy came over and handed his baby to her-we still dont kow why he done this, it was hilarious to see her face! After handing the baby back we got a boat out to the river to see the dolphins, it was really nice, we seen many of them swimming around-we only really got to see the tops of them coming out every so often but it was still amazing. We were out on the boat for a hour or so then when we got back we headed back on bikes for hostel, it was now getting to sunset time and we didnt want to be far away when dark as it was a unknown area to us. The journey took about a hour as we didnt have as many stops now it was getting coolerbut again all the people were shouting at us hello etc, so surreal. We then arrived, got cleaned up and went for wee walk where we bumped in to a 17 year old girl who asked us for our address so she could become our penpal, such a nice girl so we gave her them but told her we would not be there for another year but we would write to her once we got to Australia. We then got some dinner then chilled out again under our nets. There didnt seem to be much nightlife in Krati but that was fine with us as we were done in.
Nextday we had a early start, the bus back to Phnom Phen was at 7.00, we got on and travelled the 7 hours back, it was longer this time due to the driver stopping constantly for a fag or food! We then arrived back and got a briliant welcome back from one of our really good friends Paul who had missed us-he got a chair and stood on it so he could hug us as he is teeny-was hilarious! I felt like i had arrived back at home-really strange but really nice! 😊
