This is me, getting off the lift for the first time.
I am offically a badass snowboarder chick.

Last Saturday I took off with a couple of my friends to the Sierra Nevada mountains to give snowboarding a shot. I've been a skiier (not a very good one) since I was 11. My friend Mike promised to give me free lessons if I went along with him, so Carla and I decided to join Matt and him on their escapade to the mountains.

We took a bus, and it only took us 40 minutes to get to a small tourist town in the mountains. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. I didn't even need to wear a coat. I made sure to wear my Batman shirt, so in case I was aweful at snowboarding, I would still look cool. 😉

We rented all of the equipment and headed up to the lifts, getting free Hagen Daz ice cream on the way up. I was so excited. Everyone back in Granada warned me about how hard snowboarding is and that I will want to give up after an hour, but it wasn't like that at all. I had the time of my life, and Mike even told me that he's

never seen anybody pick it up so fast. I do have some painful bruises, and I was hardly able to walk the following day, but it was so much fun! I think that a big part of learning something new is to be able to laugh at yourself when you mess up. I definitely spent a lot of time laughing. 😊

I think that my favorite crash happened toward the end of the day. If any of you have seen the Mighty Ducks movies, imagine the second one where there is a guy that doesn't know how to stop and keeps running into things. That was me, but I think that I ran into more people than things. I was practicing "toe-side" when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a girl coming down the hill, full-speed and out of control, straight at me. I tried really hard to stop, but it was too late. We collided with eachother, but instead of hitting the ground, we kept going. We were latched onto eachother and screaming when all of a sudden we we were clothes-lined by a red sign that said DESPACIO (Slow Down) and took the entire

thing out. I was laughing so hard! I finally helped her up and said in Spanish "I guess that sign is there for a reason eh?". I bet we were pretty funny to watch.

After that my legs were shot and I was basically incapable of doing anything but sitting down. I found a doughnut shop and camped out there until the slopes closed. I would have to say that it was an extremely successful day. I definitely proved everyone wrong that said that it would be terrible, no fun at all, and that I wouldn't even be able to stand during the first day. I was a champ. Even Carla said that she didn't expect me to do that well. (She actually said that she expected me to be really bad at it haha.) I'm definitely proud of myself. 😊

Good Job!!!
Of course you were good, you will be good at anything that you really want to do - you have a little of Chelsi in you ("You can try to beat me, but I'll kill myself before I let you" - hahaha) Looks like a lot of fun. I especially like the wipe out story - took out the Despacio Sign - hehehehe. Matt and Mike and Carla sound like great friends to have over there - tell em Grampa Bob says Hi!
