OMG where do I begin. The flight itself was pretty uneventful. They came around with dinner after about 3 hours. My chicken was okay, but Ray;s pasta was inedible. Lucklly they gave him two bloody mary;s, so that calmed him down. We did catch a little sleep, but not a heck of a lot, We started our day with coffee and something that was called a breakfast calzone. One look at it and it turned my stomach, but Ray being the food hound that he is decided to try it. He could barely get the small bite that he took down, so he too decided on just coffee for Breakfast. After a smooth landing the captain announced that we would not be getting a gate and would be transported by bus to the terminal. They parked the jet out in the back forty somewhere, and it seemed like an eternity before the buses arrived. Then they started cramming, and I mean cramming, people in. Just when you thought they couldn‘t get another briefcase in, let alone another person, they pushed three more people on. Upon arriving at the terminal I will describe the scene as a mass of humanity trying to
get through immigration. The throngs turned into lines by counties that snaked towards the facial identification machines, then to the immigration officers for passport stamping. Next we had to again walk what seemed like forever to get out of the terminal and to the car rental agency. All in all it was two and a half hours after landing that we left the airport.
Traffic as with any large airport was horrendous, and that along with an unfamiliar GPS, made the ride interesting. Ray said that the gas was quite low and that we should find a gas station sooner than later. The GPS indicated that there were two off of the next exit so off we went. The area looked quite scary, one you really wouldn’t want to go through if given the choice, but here we were. We were elated to see the station up ahead, but found that it was closed. So on we went In search of another one. The area started looking a lot better and we finally found a gas station. Ray started pumping the gas and found that it would only take a small amount. He came back to check the gauge
and realized that he had misread it! Ugh, all that anxiety and driving way out of the way for nothing. After many missed turns we finally got back on the correct highway, but had wasted about an hour and a half. We had now been up for 24 hrs so decided to stop and a rest area and catch a few winks.
We arrived at our B&B around 4:00 quite tired. Our host does not speak any English so it was quite a challenge communicating, but here we are chilling before dinner and enjoying some internet time.
We left the B & B, and walked a couple of blocks to a little restaurant. Although it was not yet open, the woman seated us at an outside table and brought us some wine. We had Les Musees (Mussels) for dinner, followed by a banana split crepe for desert. They were outstanding. We’re back at the room, finishing this blog, and hitting the sack for some much needed sleep.
