U.S. Northwest - Day 18, or On Our Way Home

We'd already pretty much packed up the night before, so with our 5:30am alarms, we were downstairs waiting for our ride by 5:45am. Finally, at almost 6:10, our ride showed up. The nice gentleman apologized for running late and took to Boise International Airport, dropping us off out front. We checked in, got our tickets and were boarding pretty much on time. I make this statement because almost nothing was on time or easy after that! We arrived at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport around 11am Central time. Since our connecting flight was not until after 7pm that night and wouldn't show up on the boards for a while, we settled down near the gate we'd arrived at, after a long walk around Terminal C.

Manoli got out her book and I hooked up my PC and settled into a spot at the computer table to play Roblox Islands. My wife had made lunch, which we ate at the gate. We had noticed there was another flight to Greenville South Carolina several hours earlier, but it was sold out and we didn't care to try for standby. Finally, our flight showed up on the boards, at a gate in terminal A. Oh well, no big deal. It was still early and the walk would do us good. We got to terminal A and settled in there. It was close to dinner time now, so we wandered around the terminal, looking for something decent, but not too expensive. So much for the last part. Everything we saw that was interesting started at $20 each and went up to almost 40. We'd spotted a 7/11, to our surprise, and after finding little else, I checked it out, knowing that in South Carolina the 7/11s have some interesting snacks. Manoli agreed, and went to pick something out while I guarded our bags and such. She returned with some chicken tender kabobs which she said were tender, so I went for my selection. I ended up with sweet and spicy chicken kabobs and some potato wedges. Very good, and filling.

The fun began after dinner. First, the board changed the departure from A6 to A26 and the time from 7:32pm to 8:40pm. Before moving our stuff, I went down to gate A26 to double check. The AA person there told me no, the departure gate was still A6, but the time was correct now at 8:40pm. We went back into chill mode, periodically checking the board, then around 7 something, I found the board had changed again. This time it said the departure gate was C26 and the time was 10:40pm. When the AA staff confirmed it, we packed up our stuff and took the Skylink to terminal C and walked to C26. Just when we figured all was well again, they started calling for boarding at 9pm, or so we thought. What had happened there was we'd had our phones in Airplane mode since we left Boise... in the Mountain time zone, and so it was actually 10pm! Fortunately we were ready and got onboard. The fun wasn't over yet though. We sat there going nowhere for a while before the pilot came on the speaker system and announced they were having some sort of minor problem and were short one AA crew member to fix the problem. About 20 minutes later, the pilot came back on and said we were now ready to depart.

We landed at Greenville/Spartanburg airport around 2am, Easter time, and were apparently the last flight to arrive, as the place was a ghost town. We finally got our luggage and went across to the car rental garage where our car had been parked the whole 17 days, packed up, and drove home. This time on very familiar roads with no surprises.

Sometime soon after publishing this, which will probably be a bit late to recuperate and such, I plan on writing a sort of synopsis. Giving our opinion of the various places we went, the people we met, the things we did, along with an overall consensus.
