Seven hours walking the Yorkshire dales on the hottest day of the year. Equipped with my jumper and coat in my trusty pack I set off without my walking partner. Julie’s ankle is rather ugly so she gave herself the day off. This means she travels with the luggage and takes a somewhat circuitous route but still beats me to our Hawes BnB by several hours. So if you want to know what the luggage transfer vehicle is like you’ll have to contact my twisted sister. Without her pedometer the exact number of steps is a mystery but again it must be close to 38000 as the distance was 23 km. Relatively easy walking on very clearly defined tracks made for a faster rate than we have maintained on any other day. That’s a reflection on the terrain not on Julie.

The readily identifiable outline of Pen-y-Ghent seemed to haunt me at every turn and for at least 15 km. Likewise there’s a super impressive railway duct with 24 arches (Ribblehead I think) that came into and out of view numerous times but I never actually walked to.

Most of the shots are just Yorkshire Dales. They are expansive and I’m glad the walk wasn’t too long today because to me they are somewhat monotonous. But that’s the eye of the beholder. Unbelievably some people consider the moors boring!

I detoured (only a little) off track to the Wensleydale Creamery factory expecting and hoping they would have good ice creams. They did but now they have one less than they had before I got there. Coach loads of tourists must come and go, luckily I was hot, sweaty and didn’t smell to good so it was easy for me to get served.

Tonight we will walk and limp somewhere but probably not a pub. There’s pizza here (which Julie has been hanging out for) and Indian which may be OK.

And that‘s it. Ciao for now.

34 photos today.

The ? ?
The luggage bus took me to Hawes via Ribblesdale Viaduct, Dent, and the lovely Yorkshire Dales. The driver was very nice and our host at Wensleydale BnB (an Aussie) was able to give me an ice pack after I had a quick walk down the street in the afternoon.
