47 miles. 10.,6 mph 1250m. Ascent. Good meal in the Hostel last night until I suffered cramp at the table and nearly cleared the table of occupants in my reaction. Ten minutes standing on one leg and a bit of violent massage did the trick, although I had minor recurrences all evening. A walk around Hawes was pleasant before an early bed at 9,30pm. Cramp appeared briefly at mid afternoon at Tan Hill after a half of Guinness when I had to hop on one leg to my bike to the consternation of the gathered throng of drinkers in the outside garden. The ride along the valley through Askrig was very pleasant with the sun breaking through. The climb out of Askrig was not quite as nice giving a shock to my legs. Castle Bolton was ... read more

Lakes and Dales 2021. Day 1 27 June 51 miles. 10.4 MPH Ave. 1330 ascent Well! Here we are again on our first adventure this year following the horrendous world wide bout of COVID 19 coronovirus which has brought the world to its knees. The UK has been under restrictions since March 2020 with limits on mixing and travel both within the UK and abroad. Restrictions still apply but we can go to hotels if we don’t mix too much and mask wearing obligatory inside communal areas, so off we go. Several cyclists arrived in Clitheroe yesterday and went out for a meal together at Holmes Mill joining the throng of people finally released from purgatory. Luckily the weather forecast for the week is good, with no rain and temperatures up to 20 degrees C. Whilst ... read more

Seven hours walking the Yorkshire dales on the hottest day of the year. Equipped with my jumper and coat in my trusty pack I set off without my walking partner. Julie’s ankle is rather ugly so she gave herself the day off. This means she travels with the luggage and takes a somewhat circuitous route but still beats me to our Hawes BnB by several hours. So if you want to know what the luggage transfer vehicle is like you’ll have to contact my twisted sister. Without her pedometer the exact number of steps is a mystery but again it must be close to 38000 as the distance was 23 km. Relatively easy walking on very clearly defined tracks made for a faster rate than we have maintained on any other day. That’s a reflection on ... read more
It’s actually Robbie’s track. No I couldn’t.
Julie likes sign signs. So here we go.
Sign. Mean much more to us.

After entering the coolness of Terminal Three we passed through the security check point and there I caused problems for the security staff. I thought I had taken everything off that was metal but after several attempts to pass through the metal detector I continued to set the alarm off. I was given a pat down and I think it was the necklace chains I was wearing. After that we headed up to the departure lounge and we had about 45 minutes until our flight to Newcastle. Went to the Duty Free and got Bombay Sapphire Gin for us and Courvesiour VSOP Brandy for Richard’s Mum. Richard went and looked for the Emirates flight desk but couldn’t find it. I got a magnet form the shop that was 12.00 Dirham. Managed to us all of Richard’s ... read more
