You never know what you are going to see at our park. Taking a stroll the other morning, we found a site in our area that had a pile of stuff heaped on their picnic table. Not totally uncommon. The motor home was gone....maybe for repairs or maybe it was their only mode of transportation to go to the Disney/Universal Parks, etc. Whatever. We noted a portable clothes dryer on this picnic table...running! Yep...these folks were drying their clothes while they were away. Not wasting a single second. A woman’s’ work is never done! I suppose we could have hung around and folded their clothes once they were dried....but we had places to go and things to do. Next time!
We bought a new E-Z Up Canopy for outside out RV. I try to make it a cozy gathering place. Cory ends up using it as a garage. Every year, he had concrete blocks he would use to anchor it down. When we would leave to go home, he hid them far away in the park. Well....maybe he didn’t hide them well enough this past year cause when we returned, they were gone. He always hid them in the same
spot so obviously a cement block thief was watching him when he deposited them. Such is life. So he was on a mission to find some screws that go into cement to anchor down this new tarp. He checked Lowes & 2 hardware stores and no luck....or not the size he wanted. Dave, the park’s handyman who can fix anything, told us about an OLD Hardware store in downtown Kissimmee.
Good enough! Our foursome loaded up in our car and sped down the highway to Kissimmee. We found the old, family owned hardware store with our GPS. Thank heavens for all this technology we now live with. The store is called Makinson’s Hardware. You can identify it because there is a huge mural on one outside wall. There is also a big metal horse hanging from the roof of the store with its name sign. Sam was excited cause he loves hardware stuff....Harbor Freight being his favorite store. Mine is Walmart. You knew that. Lulu took advantage of a few photo ops. This store is the oldest hardware store in Florida! That’s something! Cory only found a few of the screw parts he was looking for...so our search continued.
Before we left this historic town, we strolled up and down their Main Street. Four barber shops on one block on one side of the street. Cory surmised maybe they were run by bookies. Who knows....we didn’t go in to try to place a bet. We just buy lottery tickets. Came across an old Antique shop that Sam frequented in years past. The owners remembered him! What a home coming! I was busy snapping photos for my “Weird Second Hand Stuff” Facebook Group that I belong to. Lulu did not mind posing with the various curiosities. She fits in well in that group and category. When we see some of these unique items, the desire to be back in the business grows strong. We just use our strongest will power and march right past. Not easy, though. It’s in our blood. We need to be wearing horse blinders.
We ended up at a Home Depot. Hooray! Cory finally found what he was looking for. Whew....it wasn’t an easy task. But perseverance paid off.
Yesterday, was a fun day. Our friends, Mike & MJ, came to see us. You have met them before. Mike was one of Cory’s
roommates in college at the University of Buffalo. After college, they loss touch with one another. A few years back, Cory googled Mike’s name. Remember, Google is your friend! Sure enough, Mike responded to one of Cory’s inquiries. He and his wonderful wife, MJ, were living in Florida....not far from our park!! Unbelievable! Now they live near The Loop.....even closer. Since then, we have been able to resume our friendship and enjoy some times together. Of course, Cory & Mike reminisce about their shenanigans shared when in college.
We enjoyed an afternoon of chatter at our RV. It is so nice to be with them again. Took a golf cart ride around the park. Glad we did cause we saw Jim & Sandy Barrett visiting with Ray & Saray. They are staying this year at Regal Oakes, a resort next door to our park. Our dinner with Mike & MJ was at The Olive Garden. I asked Mike how this restaurant compares to real, homemade Italian food (his last name is Degaro) and he says it’s really good. Great, because we love the food at this Italian restaurant. Once back to our RV, we walked up to Old Town
and wandered around all the fancy cars lined up for their Cruise Night. Thank you Mike and MJ for your visit. We are looking forward to our next time!
While at the car show, we saw our friends who used to stay at Tropical Palms and now are in a different resort close by. Winston and Sharon. They are from Canada. Great to see them again. We miss them. Hey, I forgot to tell you that Cory, Sam & George went to the famous Mecum auction the other day. Each year, I tell Cory if he finds an MGA....just buy it! Well, he found one but the guy wanted $75,000. He didn’t buy it! Just as well. That’s a tad too pricey. However, a couple other fancy cars did sell for $2 million & $3 million! Geeze. Too rich for our blood. Lulu wouldn’t hesitate to get them but remember.....she has no blood! And the truth is....she has no money. Now you ask “ How does she afford to buy her cigarettes.” Simple.....she begs them off anyone she can. Tramp, vagabond, scrounger! This has to stop! Next she’ll be on the street corner, wandering (rolling) down through traffic with
a beggars sign. Florida did pass a law stating this act is illegal and the person can be arrested. That’s all we need....for her to be a criminal in jail! What a mess that will be. I bought her some nicorette lozenges the other day. She’s fighting me but I’ll put them in her mouth when she is sleeping. I have to do everything I can to get her to quit this latest addiction.
You all have a big surprise coming up soon. It is going to happen at the end of this week. I’ll fill you in at our next blog. We want the suspense to build.
So stay with us or you’ll miss the time of your life. See you soon. A lot to see.....24 pictures this time!
