Turkey travel

Going to Turkey; looking for a idea of prices on food; bus travel; and hostels. I am a pretty salty shoestring traveller!

Hello-I am hoping to go to Turkey for 2 weeks. I found a package for 11 nights in "4 star" hotels; bus between 7 cities; 11 breakfasts and 7 dinners; and 4 guided tours. Grand total $1299. This seems like a good deal-but definitely not my style. Although I am gettin' older...

If I just went solo, I've found airfare, on my own, for $750. Which would leave $550 to play with-if I were going dollar for dollar. I travelled SE Asia and South America for a year and probably never paid more than $5 for a nights stay and mostly ate street corner food. So I am comfortable in the shoestring world. Anyone out there done any travel in Turkey?
Looking to see if this package is a good means to an end to get me to and around Turkey. But if there are cheap somewhat safe hostels and cheap bus fare then perhaps its still a better deal to have my flexibility and go solo.

Didn't know what the going rate on lodging; travel; and food was in Turkey. For example-bus fare (in YTL) from Istanbul to Ankara or Gallipoli to Istanbul? Typical lunch or dinner on the street or at a locals cafe? Your typical Lonely planet hostel (in town) for a night?

Thanks for any help. Reply to this

Hi i have no time for writing but i must write these...
From Istanbul to Ankara about 45 YTL (http://online.metroturizm.com.tr/metro/buy/)
And To Gallipoli : 35 YTL
Typical Lunch or dinner : Meat Döner or Kebab , or one of Mc Donalds 😊
And i dont have any idea about hostels, but you can find good hotels in Taksim/Talimhane (Hotels area)

And i advice you travel with your guided tours, becouse of learning somethin' about Culture of Turkey

Have a nice trip in Turkey

Hi Adam,

Hostelworld and hostelbookers might be a good place to have a look for rates.

I am heading to Turkey myself this year, with the hope of crossing into Syria and Jordan. Have you researched this at all? Do you have any idea how easy/safe it is at the moment?

I lived in Turkey for a year and a half, if you can find even hostel accomodation for under $15ytl a night - good luck to you -really.Bus fares are very cheap and not like Australia. You get a steward on board who serves you with free drinks and snacks for the entire journey, like on a plane here, the buses are very modern and comfortable although too frequently, the drivers put the heating up to high and roast you, I suggest the isle seat so your not sitting on the heater. Fethiye to Istanbul - a 14 hour trip is jusy 40 YTL. Reply to this

Fethiye to Istanbul or Istanbul to Fethiye just 55 YTL for Kamil Koç Rahat Hat (Fully Comfortable Buses)

You can sit alone in the bus , and you can listen radio with your own bus radio , or you can use wifi internet , or you can talk with your phone vs vs vs... And they really serves like on planes...
