I have to take a taxi in Istanbul in the middle of the night to get to the airport. Is it safe? If not, what are my other option?
I have bought my tickets for my trip to Amsterdam and Istanbul in May. Unfortunately, the plane is leaving Turkey very early in the morning. Now I wonder if it is safe to take a taxi in Istanbul in the middle of the night to go to the airport. Did some of you have some experience with it?

Reply to this don't worry Renoir u can take ur taxi at heart. Yes, i am turkish but i ensure u that there is no daference of it from any of other Europeonen big cities. have and eny ur trip to ist.

Reply to this Like the other guy said, make sure he puts it on the meter although, I got my fare from Sisli to Attaturk airport for just 30YTL, It's about 1 hour drive. How cheap is that !!! If you dont speak Turkish, make sure the taxi is real one, call from a hotel or get one at a rank.
Reply to this I dont want to draw a pessimistic atmosphere, but as there are bad people everywhere there are bad taxi drivers in Istanbul too.
So I just wanted to warn you that,
- yes meter is crucial.
- also watch when paying the driver at the end of the journey. Try to have small cash on hand and give the full amount or something close to it to the driver. Be careful when handing over big banknotes, as ( I heard )it is a trick of some 'bad' taxi drivers in Istanbul to replace the bigger banknote with a smaller one and request more from you.
Reply to this Beware that taxi drivers will try to over-charge tourists. Tell the driver where you want to go, and ask him how much it will cost.
