Why do you go to a destination again and again?

I am working on my paper for my course in tourism. My major concern is "why do you revisit a destination?". That is to say, what makes you go to a destination repeatedly? What influences you?

Hi-

I spent 2.5 months in Kerala India in 2006. I am currently living in China, and since I came back over to this side of the world, my sights have unexpectedly returned to Kerala. One main reason I will be going back (in October) is because i want to continue studying the dance form Mohiniattom which is native to the area. But I also want another chance to really experience the place. I have learned a lot about travelling and have grown up quite a bit in the last couple of years. Where you are in your own life definitely influences the way you experience a place which makes me confident that my second Kerala experience will build on my first and will provide a whole new set of experiences as I look at Kerala through a different lens. Reconnecting with old friends is also a plus. Hope this helps!

My family and I go to Disney World every year (for the last 4 years). It is a care free place that leaves all the worries of business behind. They do all of the thinking for you. It is 'the friendliest place on earth'and the weather is great! Especially when you're from the Great White North! Reply to this

HI

I like visiting the some destinations again and again to find my past memory. I like seeing familiar shops, streets, lakes and think what did I do last time at the same places. Who did I travel with? What kind of mood did I have? What did I think?

Every time, when I come back to my daily life again. I will find what I have lost in the past time and what I should treasure now. Reply to this

Certain places satisfy different requirements, different holliday types... for example
restfull holiday, seaside, sunshine, sand(beach), water safety, bycycle access, local food.
For ten years we went camping in Devon, with our children. More recently carravanning in Lake district for six years...
Revisiting oveerseas... Madeira, twice and we will go again. Excellent island, mostly UK oaps(senior citizens!), food, accomodation and people five star.
Adventure holidays, tend to be one place once only no revisits, "been there done that got tea shirt", no need to revisit... eg Athens, Jerusalem, Cairo, Tokio, Cape Town, Los Angeles...
Other places worth multi visits...
Paris, a super city
New York, shopping and sights,
San Fransisco, sights and friends nearby!
Sydney, ditto,
Hawaii, lots to see, unique

Summary
Reasons for revisits, familiarity, past enjoyable experience, you know what to expect...
meets current need

Reasons to avoid revisit... been there done it..., unlikely to meet needs/expectations...

I find older people look for new experiences, travel to off beat places, once only...

goodluck
regards

Hi Silence, I first visited Nepal 9 years ago and instantly fell in love with the people an the country. I've been back 3 more times and spent weeks travelling there and trekking and each time love it more. I'll be returning again next year too. I think it is a combination of mainly the people you meet, then the surrounding scenery and places you visit while there and then all the experiences you have of course things like the food and hospitality.
I always like where I travel to and have also been to Egypt 3 times an Morocco twice and would love to go back someday. Reply to this

alpbabe, thanks for your sharing
as you mentioned, poeple and especially the way of people's life and their hospitality and of course the natural view are attracting you to cone back again and again
here is another questions for you and the another friends here in the travel blog!
(1)did you visit the same place that you once visited, or some places that you missed in your prior trip, or just seeking novelty to visit some newly developed attraction?
(2)did you spenditure and time duration change during different visits to the same destination?? for instance, your last revisit, you spent 10 days and 100 $ , while your first visit you olny spent 3 days but 200$?
(3)where did you collect all the tourism imformation, i mean via what channels? for instance ,the travel agents, the internet? the prior visiting experince? and so on?
can you explain in more detail?

Hi! I have already been to Bangkok for 6 times in 5 years.

I love Bangkok. It is a much more fun city than Singapore where I'm from. Clothes are cheaper, and the variety of clothes, shoes, accessories are much wider than in Singapore.

Because of the fast-paced society lifestyle in Singapore, Bangkok provides a near, cheap and GOOD escape for me. When I walk around the streets of Bangkok, its markets, people and food, I just feel relaxed and even at home! I love the way of the Thai people, the way they shop, the way they work and the way they help each other.

Everytime I visit Bangkok, it never fails to thrill me. I am someone who loves to meet or look at beautiful people too. Bangkok is an ideal location near Singapore for me to meet new people. Walk down the streets of Khao San or the shops of MBK and you will see many people from many nations!

I love BKK. Reply to this

I have been going to Rome every few years for the last ten years simply becauseI still haven't done everything I want to do there and I have really good memories of the place.

There's always a piazza I didn't get to explore or a picturesque street I didn't wander down, and so I still go back there again and again. Unfortunately I still haven't been to one of the most important places in Rome - Palantine Hill, where it all started!

Sometimes the more you get past the major tourism sites, you begin to unearth a lot more in the way of local culture, foods, etc, that inspires you to explore a place at a deeper level. I used to dislike Beijing quite a lot, but have come to really like it for a lot of the off-the-beaten-path things you can see there.

I live in the US but have spent almost two years time in France.. I like going back there for a number of reasons:
- to better understand the people and the culture
- to return to a place that is different from the US but increasingly familiar (due to previous visits)
- to meet other adventurous travelers
- to meet French people who have a different perspective on things
- to improve my skills using a foreign language
- to gain a perspective on how another county views my country
- to have fun french style (singing in bars, ridiculous dinners, watching soccer, etc.)

Hope that's helpful!

** just noticed that the original post was back in 2007.. I'll bet that paper is long finished by now :·
