Shall I give it all up and travel the world ???

Has anyone out there given up their steady comfortable life, rid themselves of responsibilities, and decided to travel the world?

First of all, Good Luck! I think it's a very brave and very good idea. I am also having this looming realization that the designs I have imagined for my life rest on blurred lines and intoxicated dreams. I want to leave it all, all the things and people I have no honest and real attachment with. Just like you I have already started to sell the things I have been gathering for so many years. I am growing into the idea of carrying all I need on my back and instead of collecting dreams, I want to collect memories. Go for it! Wish you all the best! In response to: Msg #184257 Reply to this

Life provides many choices.

Collecting dreams and memories instead of things is a common thread among the people on this web site. Travel enriches the soul.
I'm one of those people who started traveling later in life. I love the travel. I love being with friends and family so I've found a balance.
Good luck sorting out the best plan for you for a life well lived. Reply to this

hi guys! :D
just to keep you all updated while I have a good free wifi spot 😉 I'm currently in Switzerland with my partner! (in Winterthur). we have in the past 2 weeks travelled around Belgium, Luxembourg, a little of France and now obviously Switzerland 😊
we've had no problems at all so far lol, the only place we've been stopped at any point is here in Switzerland (at the boarder for a check and twice randomly as we've been driving around just to ask what we're doing and check our doc.s etc).
We've seen and done so much I can't believe it's only been just over 2 weeks, it's been awesome, I'm totally loving life on the road!

well I can't write much now as we are moving on soon, Switzerland is a crazy expensive country, I'd gotten in the habbit of popping into a random little cafe for a espresso (usually around €1.50-2.00 so lets say £1.30) just to be able to use their wifi for a while but here a single shot of coffee is always like 5chf (about £3.60) so I can't do that as much lol :p

We'll be heading to Italy in about a week I think 😊
hope everything works out for you guys as well! good luck!

In response to: Msg #188491 Hi Caz, sounds like it's going really well so far. So pleased that you're having a good time, especially at this time of year as the weather can be a bit changeable around the Alps. When is your first working trip planned for? Pretty exciting.

The days seem so much longer when you're travelling and just experiencing life don't they? Reply to this

last year I gave my work two months notice, saved as much money as I could bought a backpack and some gear nothing crazy and hitch hiked across Canada for the summer working along the way. taking time to visit friends and make new ones i went to Calgary stampede and went surfing in Tofino BC, hiked some mountains in the Alberta Rockies. I wouldn't change that summer for all the money in the world... my life now is working to save enough money so I can quit my job and do it all over again hoping the southern united states of America will be next. I always loved traveling but it became a passion when I learned how to really become a part of the place I am visiting. my only regret is waiting as long as I did. wish I had started at 18 not 28... I don't think ill ever stop its who I am now Reply to this

Hi All,

We're finally on our way. We've both quit our jobs, sold our house, got rid of all of our stuff (almost), and will be leaving the country on June 1st to start our little adventure. Planning to spend a couple of years on the move at least depending on how the finances go.

Starting with 3 months in Europe and then off to Australia and NZ for 6 months. Can't wait just to get going now although still so much to organise and do before we leave the UK. Changes of address etc, a real pain.

We're going to be writing our own little blog ( https://jwalkingin.wordpress.com/ ) whilst we're away so just trying to get that going now. Any advice on blogging would be most appreciated as we're new to it and I guess it sort of evolves as you travel and do more.

Good luck, how wonderful. I didn't sell my house for a Six month Oz. NZ trip , I swapped it ...house and hospitals exchange to enable me to to do it. And it was amazing , made great friends and the trip was unforgettable.
Blogging. As you go is a fabulous way to record the journey, and to keep in touch and also to make new friends with fellow bloggers ... You never feel alone.
Best wishes , look forward to hearing about your adventures her on TB. Reply to this

I am in the process of doing exactly that! I'm a teacher, my husband is an accountant - we've both always been very sensible, have been working hard through our 20s and will be 30 this year. I hate my job, he isn't bothered about his... So eventually last month we made the decision... we've both resigned, had an offer accepted on our house last weekend and will be off in August to see the world! You only live once right? Good luck with your plans ? Reply to this

There are so many ways to make this happen.

Saving money, cutting out all the unnecessary purchases in life and saving it for travel.
Couch surfing or house trading.
Selling the house and storing the belongings or.....selling everything.

Good luck to all of you who are out there making your plans.
We are eager to read your blogs.

Hey, been away for a couple of weeks now, staying in a beautiful Airbnb chalet in Holland. Still relaxing into the slower less-stressful lifestyle but loving every minute. There is just so much more time to spend together talking, walking, cycling and exploring the world around us. Helps that the weather is pretty good too.

Been doing our blog for a few weeks too and could really do with a little feedback if anyone has a moment, https://jwalkingin.wordpress.com/ . Tough to know how to pitch it really, I guess you learn over time with practice don't you? Anyway, constructive criticism would be most appreciated.

Jon Jo,

It was about a year ago when you posted your question about selling it all and traveling. Looks like you are finally on the road! How exciting. We will read along.

As for suggestions it looks like you are on the right path. If you have any desire to end up on the front page eventually you will need to write 500 words, include 5 photos and 5 have followers.

I think everyone's writing style changes over time. We began writing for ourselves to remember what we were up to and do keep friends and family informed. Once you read other blogs you will be a bit influenced by other peoples ideas and styles but it will always be your own.

Personally I like to hear about the people you meet along the way and your impressions of the area. How it differed from what you expected or how it was exactly what you were expecting.

You will make it your own. Reply to this
