Traveling to Istanbul in 2011

This is my first time visiting Istanbul and would like some recommendations for places to eat or see while I am there. The less touristy the better. Thank you in advance for the help.

Most of the sights that I know are the more touristy ones, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace (all these are very close together) and the two markets - the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Bazaar (I preferred the latter). I've heard that the Catacombs are very impressive, but never managed to see them myself. Dusk around the Blue Mosque is a great time for photographs.

Eating in Istanbul is a delight, so just find a restaurant/cafe with lots of local people and it is sure to be good and well-priced food. Reply to this

Staying in Blue Mosque area is better and convenient to all cultural sights. you need to spend some time in Taksim Area. Taste the restaurants in Tunnel area. Very cosmopolitic cafees.

Very nice pedestarian road full of local shops restaurants. There is one very nice and least popular museum I would recommend. Chora Museum. It is full of mosaics and spirit. I would recommend eating the crowded places since good chief has many customers as usual.

Sights in old city has more history and more interesting. Especially living in the nearby SaintSophia is handy. we have stayed in <snip>

Especially chora museum is very interesting. we have also visited body works exhibition. I strongly recommend you to visit it. Once you have time, you can have some drinks in Pierre Lotti in Balat in IStanbul. Nice view of golden horn.
