Hi everyone,
I'm heading to New Zealand next July with my partner and was hoping to hire a campervan for 5 weeks. The thing is I've been doing some research on our licences and I'm not sure we can hire one. Please help!
If you passed your test before 1997 you can drive anything. My partner passed in 2004 and myself this year. We have just category B on the back of our licences, which from doing some research on the DVLA shows that we can drive a vehicle up to 3,500 kg. 3.5 tonnes.
What do you guys think? do you think it will be ok?
Thanks!!!
Reply to this Have you got an international license? If not get one of those and check what that entitles you to drive.
Reply to this Hi Clare,
Definitely get an international licence (both of you) - will make things a bit easier.
I think the specific hiring restrictions come down to the individual company. These two had international toll free numbers on their websites, so you could contact them directly and check. There are loads more companies out there, but asking a couple will give you a general idea.

Thanks for your replies!
I have spoken to the rental company and they said it's fine, the licence we have.
Don't want to go through the hassle of getting an international licence as it's only a few weeks driving.
:-)
Reply to this Thanks for this topic and the replies! I am thinking of travelling to Sydney and wanted to rent a car there, but wasn't sure if I'll be able to use my driving license or not! 😊
Cheers,
Jonathan
