Hiho!

Finnish douchbag reporting in.

Im thinking of doing a tour around europe by bike...!
I was going to do it on a zero budget and doing work where ever i can when ever i can. I am totally bored and depressed in finland and i want to see places and do stuff while im still young!!! Not just sit around at home and wait for a nother day at the office...
I am probably taking whit me only my tent my sleeping bag and a toothbrush (roughly laugh ). I was going to leave as soon as i get all my bills payed and my house rented.
But now im having second toughts (getting scared) is there any sense doing this and is it even possible? Encourage me laugh! And if somebody has done a bike trip around europe feel free to give tips

I have some traveling experience Estonia, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, England, France, China (Hongkong), New Zealand, Fiji. But never even rode a bike abroad smirk

Hello Vili 😊

If you are bringing a tent, farmers in some countries will let you camp on their land. Germany is one of those countries. I dont know which others are generally easy going about it. And there are organisations such as couchsurfing, which exchange free of charge staying in each others houses. Check their website.

Be sure to have a robust bike. When I was cycling around Ireland, I had a mountain bike, which held up pretty well. I met a guy who had a racing bike, and he was frequently needing to get things repaired.

When you say zero budget, do you mean you literally have no money. I would have some for this trip, and not rely too much on getting work as go. Even a few Euros per day might be enough, if you are willing to rough it.

Of course, it is best to do this trip, during nice weather, for sleeping outside. Maybe you should plan it for next April or May, rather than now, because half of the European Summer is already over. You only have 1.5 nice weather months left. I think, winter would make this trip more expensive and complicated, because you would need more clothes, and getting free places to stay will be more difficult because of camping being less of an option. Also, winter equipment will be heavier to carry.

GO GO GO GO GO GO Go. My advise to you is to get puncture proof tyres armadilo continental are the best. Throw yourself at the mercy of the continent. depending on how you want to work but i think you could pedal south seeing europe as you go by the time you hit the alps you will be in perfect time to do a ski season hosting and so on, Dec to april without a beer bill will see you in pocket of around £3000 that will be plenty to fix your bike and to see you round the rest of europe as next spring breaks.

It's an excellent idea, of course things will go wrong but that half the fun, and half of the stories you'll have to tell when you get back to Finland.
My boyfriend and I cycled around the UK during March this year, we in camped in filed for free, and occasionally went in camp sites for a good shower and to wash cloths. You'll need a camp stove and loads of food if you're cycling, and warm cloths if you're planing on going soon.

We were traveling between 40 and 60 miles a day, depending on the size of the hills.
There are plenty of jobs you can do around Europe, there are fruit and vegetable picking jobs, if you type in to Googol picking jobs, you'll find loads of work and the moneys good, they'll usually give you a bed and food all in as well.
Also try native.com it's a job web site for jobs all over Europe, I've got loads of odd bits of work from them.
You should definitely do it, what is the worse that can happen? if you hate it you can go home, if you get stuck in a country and can't afford to get out, just go to that countries nearest Finland embersy, and they'll get you home for free. And you'll have lost nothing and you'll be back in the office doing 9 to 5.
If you need any more advice pleases do not hesitate to contact me. Good luck! Reply to this
