Hi all, in September I'm embarking on a journey by road which will take me from the UK to Cambodia. I've got almost every part of the journey planned except for one small bit. I can't get through Burma, that's a given but how could I get around?
I've heard that there's a boat that can take me, my friends and vehicle from India to Thailand for around £2-300. However, I've not seen this service anywhere on the web other than a forum. Does anyone know about this at all? Any advice would be great.
The other option of course is going through China and hiring a guide although I've heard that this is very costly. Which is my best option and where can I find out more?
Thanks.
Reply to this Hi,
We are driving from London to New Zealand leaving in July and also wanted to drive through Burma - China is way to expensive to do, so like you we are going to have to do the shipping route.
I haven't heard of a boat going to Thailand but we are planning to ship our truck in a container from Chennai in India to Malaysia and fly ourselves. I've read of a couple of people who have done this and have an address somewhere of a shipping company they used if you want more details. It seems like a landrover costs about £300 to ship.
Reply to this Thanks for the reply, yeah that would be great if you could let me know. I'm wondering how much it would actually cost me to travel through China now. I'm thinking that I would just "pass through" each way, only taking a 3 days perhaps depending on road quality? Surely that wouldn't cost more than £300 each way.
Reply to this Hi,
These are the details from a couple who shipped from India -we haven't contacted him yet though. I'm not sure about China being that cheap from everything I've read
