I'll be going in April and am curious whats the best way to see the islands. Im on a budget, but not a ridiculously tight budget.

I know there are cruises, or you can do it yourself and fly there and figure it out.

Hi Annie,

You have few options. You can fly there from Quito or Guyaquil. Once in the Galapagos, you can either stay on one of the main island or go on a little cruise. I did it back in Feb 2008 and it was an amazing experience.

For me, it's better to stay a shorter period but to do it properly. So I would definitively advise on a cruise, 3 or 4 days is perfect if you are on a budget. You will remember all your life swimming with the seals!

I'm a diver, and for me it is the best place to dive in the world if you like the big stuffs...aka sharks...but this is way further and the only way to do it properly is on a 7 days cruise and this is far away from cheap.

You can have a look at my blog to have few ideas.

Regards,

I wanted to go to Galapagos but only for a few days from Ecuador mainland. What are the cheapest options? I mainly want to go there to dive with sharks. Reply to this

Hi Danielle,

Sadly to say, if you do want to dive Darwin and Wolf, there is simply no cheap options. In regard to most people, this is seriously expensive due to the place being so remote. Darwin's Arch is 16 hours by boat from the nearest airport...and only 48 hours by boat from Cocos...Cocos is very high on my list, hopefully done sometimes in early 2010!

This was in Feb 2008...great souvenirs!

Galapagos...Darwin's Arch...Hammerheads dreamland! Reply to this
