6 Months in south america

doing a 6 month solo trip starting my way from Columbia doing close to the gringo trek looking for info and tips and transportation and safety ect

hello my name is scott I am from Australia traveling south America for the first time I speak little Spanish and I have done a average amount of travel I'm looking to start in Columbia work my way down to Ecuador then Peru Bolivia Chile then across to Argentina back up to Uruguay Paraguay the brazil,
few things,
are there any boarders I need to avoid by bus or night like Ecuador I heard is unsafe at night for example.
Do most places have safe buses I can book to town to town are there any recommended bus services ect ?
are there some routes I need to fly in-between
what are your experiences with booking as you go as in (winging it)
and just any general tips as ill take in all the help I can get
