Hi,
I'm planning on travelling to South East Asia later in the year, and I'm curious to know if it would be possible to cover Singapore to Hong Kong accross land in about 10-11 weeks. I could take one or two inland flights to speed it up a little bit. I wouldn't necessariily be covering every inch of every country, just the hotspots! Does any have any experience of this, or think it's possible??

Thanks 😊 Reply to this

Hello Sinead 😊

Since you seem to have a flexible attitude about it(willing to take a couple of flights), I see no reason why it would not be possible. But, hopefully somebody with experience with this route will comment soon.

Hi

I can't see why not.

What about....

Through Malaysia - 2 weeks maybe, up through Thailand - 2-3 weeks, through Cambodia - 1 week - 10 days, into Vietnam and up to the Chinese border - 3 weeks, and then through China to Hong Kong 2-3 weeks

Total 10-12 weeks.

Depending on what you want to focus on - cities, national parks, beaches, islands, trekking etc. you could consider flying small legs within some of the bigger countries like Thailand, Malaysia or Vietnam.

Shouldnt be a problem at all. I did Bangkok - Hong Kong over land this spring and it all went w/o problems. Never booked anything in advance or anything 😊

My route was:

Bangkok-Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai-Chiang Khong by bus
Chiang Khong-Luang Prabang by boat (two days down the Mekong)
Luang Prabang-Phonsavan-Vinh by bus.
Vinh-Nimh Binh-Hanoi by train.
Bus to the chinese boarder and buses through China (Naning-Wuzhou-Zhaoquing-Zhuhai)
Walk from Zhahai bus station to Macau, and finally boat over to Hong Kong.

I wouldnt recommend this route exactly though. I took a trip from Bangkok to Cambodia before this and you dont want to miss out on that. Siem Reap was one of my favourite places on the entire trip, and not just because of Angkor What 😊

Also I would look into Southern Vietnam, and try to save more time for China so you can take a more fun route there than I did.

Also I would skip Macau and go through Guangzhou instead. Only reason I didnt do that was because it was a trade fare in town and even the cheap $5 rooms went for $40 or more if you could find one...

Gonna be hard to fit in everything off course so you gotta decide whats most important for you.

Enjoy your tip!
