So yeah, if you've been around, you probably heard I'm planning my first independent Europe trip ever. I have an extremely tight budget and I'm trying to limit myself to as little luggage as possible. My friend and I are looking at campgrounds in Barcelona, Rome and Paris, for the low price as well as the experience. The thing is, we don't want to carry our own tent. Those things are at least $20 and take up half the suitcase, or you have to carry it on your shoulder. Just not cool at all. So do you guys know if they rent out tents at campgrounds, and the prices? Btw, we don't have a car. Tight budget/tight luggage, remember? (oh hey, it rhymes! 😊
Thanks all😊
Reply to this Hi Miao. In the US, you can rent camping gear from large outdoor strores such as REI. I've never seen the option of renting a tent at campgrounds in the US or Canada (only been camping there in BC). So I can't really speak to Western Europe, but if one were traveling in the US, it would be difficult to rent a tent unless you were staying put for a bit.
A high quality tent is rather expensive, in the $200 range, but are compact and light. I have one I use for backcountry camping that is only four pounds in weight and fits into my pack. That type of tent is probably not a good option unless you plan on using it frequently after your Europe trip.

Reply to this Hi Miao, I have a tent, but it only weight around 2lbs, it is for 1 person, but I can manage to fit me and my cousin in there. I don't think it would be a problem to carry around. In fact I have used this tent during my backpacking and on my road trips. The tent cost me around $150 when I got it. The brand is Sierra Design model is Light Year 1. Take a look at it, I think is great.
I have camped a lot of places in US and Canada. I don't recall there are any campgrounds that let you rent a tent.
Reply to this Hello Miao Ling 😊
Often it is not more expensive to stay at hostels than to stay at camping grounds in Europe, especially if you have to pay extra to hire a tent.
There have been times when I have slept on camping grounds without a tent in Summer when I was travelling in Europe. It is often warm enough, especially in the South of Europe. There is the problem of it raining sometimes, but I generally found something to sleep under at those times. There is often some type of roof someplace.
