I found I am a bit scared of heights last year in the Ruidoso Mountains. I guess its time to conquor the fear =0 Yikes. Although I 'll be praying the whole time.

I gave up on trying to conquer that fear, around 15 years ago when I found myself half way down a cliff attached to mountain climing ropes, hooks etc. I looked down and wondered why exactly I am doing this. Looking down usually had the effect of disorientating me and making accidents more likely. Even if the mountain climbling gear would save my life if I slipped, it would not prevent me from being bashed against a craggy cliff face. And I wondered what is the point of standing on this cliff face if I cant even look down and enjoy the view.
Reply to this I'm a clean-freak: when I'm at home I have to have showered that day before I leave the house. When I'm travelling I always feel gross at the end of overnight train journeys and as soon as I arrive I rush to find a place to wash and clean my teeth. I don't mind getting grubby during the day, I just hate starting it dirty.

Reply to this I hate wind. I was in the edge of a twister as a teenager and now it just scares the ^()%^%$_ out of me.
Reply to this Hi,
Fun comment Jonathan....do you know many of us who don't like to be clean....hopefully for us not too many...wouldn't be fun to travel with only smelly people around...smile!
I "enjoyed" being in very low budget places when I was a student....but there is nothing better than a great bed and amazing bathroom...but we need to do with what we have!
Why do we have to overcome our fears or what we don't like...I didn't like to have to eat things I didn't want when I was a kid...now that I'm a "kind of" grown up, why bother with things you don't like, they are so many things to discover that each of us like...with our different tastes...to keep us busy for years.
I tell quite often to my son to enjoy what he has...and make the best of it...doesn't stop us to dream!
Reply to this I used to be petrified of flying, so scared I could not set foot on a plane and would have a panic attack at the thought of it. I cured it by flying to Australia (from the UK!), and have not stopped traveling since, I've got a lot of traveling to catch up on! I am still very afraid and need to take pills to get on a plane, but the thought of what I am going to find in a new country spurs me on. I has a lot of other fears I have overcome during my travels, helicopters, heights, water. Traveling has helped me overcome a lot of things, I have done things that I would not have dreamed of doing a few years ago.
Reply to this I'm not particularly arachnophobic, but I get creeped out by the character

Reply to this Heights was mine also - forcing myself to go abseiling helped me get over it over it over a period of time. Hard bit each time was the initial getting over the edge, then there were few choices left except to try and get down safely. I must admit I know no longer fear cliff side type heights as much, but still hate ladders. Probably a healthy phobia in a way.
Reply to this water. nearly drowned twice in the river & sea. still trying to conquer it, snorkeling & wanna take a scuba diving license soon....
Reply to this I also have a fear of locks. When my son was about 2 months old, I was at the store and came out, unlocked the truck, put the keys on the dash, him in the car seat, popped the lock and shut the door. Grabbed the first box boy and said, "Help me get my Baby!" He looked at me like the crazed monster I was at the moment and helped me out. I have never been the same about locks.
Reply to this Haha - I am admitting this on a public site - by being in the dark freaks me out. Till date I sleep with the light on. At home I've my fav lamp on & my teddy - Cuddly - by my side. I think I'd die if it was pitch dark and I could not see things around me.

Reply to this I developed a phobia for kids whinning after my daugher did it continuously during all her waking hours, until she learned to talk. For the first week of her life I was bewildered by what could be causing her to make that miserable sound all the time. Then it turned into fingernails scratching on the chalkboard irritating. I used to wear ear plug some days, when my fuse was not long enough to put up with it. Now that she is old enough to understand, I have made a rule that whinning is not allowed. Most of the time the rule is obeyed.
Reply to this My daughter has just reminded me of my telescope and binoculars phobia. She found my boyfriends telescope and is playing with it. Looking through those scares me. Something about things that are far away suddenly appearing to be right next to me. It is expecially scary if I look in binoculars inside the house. It becomes like a giants house.
