I want to travel, but I'm afraid
15 years ago, February 6th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #62439
Hi all,

I've always wanted to travel, and told myself I'd never be held back, yet here I am, 23 in a job from 9-5 and not sure where I'm going. I also happen to be a photographer and being stuck in the same place is really getting to me. I'd like to live out my dream but I have no idea where to start! So far, the best idea I have is to make plans for a trip to Mexico. I'd really like to go to Veracruz where my father is from, and see if I can't run into some interesting people to photograph.

Any advice, tips, hints, would be welcome! Reply to this

I say go for it. Read up on the area you want to visit and you'll feel much more comfortable about heading out there. It'll also give you an idea of where you're likely to get good pics. Research how to get around the country, etc. The best advice is to be prepared bu be flexible. Things might spring up which change your plans - use them to your advantage and take things as they come.

You'll have a great time. Reply to this

Hello Samantha 😊

Any advice, tips, hints, would be welcome!

The best advice I can give you is just go for it. You wont be the first to travel and if others can do it so can you. Get yourself a copy of the Lonely Planet Guide to Mexico so you can get lots of practical information to prepare for your journey and then buy the ticket and go.

Hello Samantha,

While I think everyone who blogs on this site is "biased" from the viewpoint they will obviously tell you to go (as will I), Mell and others are correct. Go! Mell is correct that you can do it. Also know if you go and you later decide it's not really what you wanted, you can always return to what you have now. It's not a "never look back" thing if you don't want it to be.

Also, while you didn't mention one way or another, I would guess at 23 you may have less obligations to worry about and keeping you from travel now (i.e. children to care for, mortgages, other bills). Not that you couldn't travel with children or arrange mortgages, but obviously once you have those you have to do more planning.

Yep, go...I think it is rare the person that went and regretted it, but often the person who didn't go and later wishes they did. Reply to this

Thanks so much for all the thoughts :D I guess step one is planning out the trip now. It may be awhile before I can go, but hopefully it'll work out.

And your right, I've got few obligations, so that's good. Reply to this

It's good you have made the decision. Once you actually make concrete motions to plan and actually go, you'll find everything is going to work out. Reply to this
