My daugher wants to send a birthday invitation to a Turkish boy, but I dont know how to spell his name. It sounds in English like Jamil. Does anybody know the correct spelling?

I think the 'c' would have a hook underneath it, as is the want with some Turkish names. This gives the letter the shortened 'ch' sound. Reply to this

I wrote out Cemil so my daugher could copy it onto the birthday card. She wrote Cjemil. I suppose the parents will be used to people spelling their sons name wrongly.

I will ask my daugher to add a hook. She will probably turn the hook the wrong way, but I think we have already spelled the name wrongly enough to give the family a laugh anyway.
