What are living costs in NZ compared to the UK?
Just interested as I may look for a job there and need to compare my original salary in the UK with what I get in NZ, which I presume will be much lower.
Reply to this Due to the recent drop in the NZ dollar, a lot of thing are cheaper if you have to compare them to USD....but the pound has dropped even further south!
It's all depend what you try to compare. Smaller cities will be way cheaper than most average city in UK....but your salary will be lower also.
On other terms, kiwis are by far the most friendly people on earth, you may not make a lot of money, but you'll be happy and make a lot new friends...I'm just back from the South Island.

Reply to this Having recently returned after a 3 month tour by motorhome, I would say that whilst salaries are indeed lower than you might expect in the UK, housing is much cheaper (as it is in most of the rest of the western world), food is possibly slightly cheaper (meat in particular), but the lifestyle they all rave about would compensate for any reservations you might have!
For me, NZ is a long way from nowhere, but if you can untie those family apron-strings, go for it!
