Hi Folks

I am hoping to go to Asia for around three months and wonder how much money I should take and the best places to go etc?

This will be my first trip that is not the usual 2 week holiday and feel that three months is just about right for me first time around as any longer would be just to scary!

I hope to take in Thailand, China and Japan..but wonder how easy it is to get from each place...and also wonder if I should include Singapore in my plan?..please forgive my ignorance!!

I also wondered how much you reckon I cash I would need for that length of trip in that area?

Thanks for any help you can give..I have just stumbled onto this forum and the info provided is amazin! Reply to this

Hi Louise,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

How much money you will need will depend greatly on how long you plan to spend in each country. Thailand , and I imagine China although I haven't been there, will be much cheaper than Japan.

Four countries in 3 months isn't stretching it too much time wise, so if you're keen to go - why not?

AirAsia is probably your cheapest option flying, but they don't go into/out of Japan. Try searching Korean Air, Thai Airways or Japan Airlines - there are others as well.

- I think you'll change your mind about that pretty quickly once you get out there :-)

Of the countries you mention Thailand is the cheapest followed by China and then Japan. Two of us got by easily on $30 per day in Thailand and $50 - $60 per day in China. We tended to opt for private rooms, usually with own bathroom, travelled by public transport and ate at a mix of places from street food to restaurants. It is possible to get by cheaper than this, and we often did. It's also possible to spend much more than this depending on what kind of traveller you are.
I agree that Air Asia would be a good place to start. They do fly into China although I'm not sure if they do so from Thailand yet - you would maybe have to go via Kuala Lumpur which is no bad thing. It is possible to get a ferry from China (I think somewhere in the Shanghai region) to Japan. I haven't done it myself but there's a bit more info on seat61.com.
3 months for 3 countries is very sensible. It would be possible to fit more in but you'll have a chance to really get to know the places you're going to by giving them each plenty of time.
I personally wouldn't include Singapore for the sake of it. If you're flying to or from there you could include a couple of days to have a look around maybe. It's nice enough but I just think there are much more interesting places to see. Then again, each to their own, if it's somewhere you'd like to see go for it.

Have fun. Reply to this

Hi,

its nice to add India too.........somehow you have to divert a little bit but its cheaper to live in India. You can stay in south India for a longer one month.....where u can enjoy some nice baches, learn Yoga etc and a typical day costs around 20 US $ ...............
some nice places are Goa and Kerala.Goa has a variety of beaches and they are safe too.Kerala is also good and you can learn Yoga there...

feel free to ask anything about India and I will try my best as its my Home country. Reply to this
