Can anyone give me advice on the best time of day and day of the week to get the least expensive fare? They seem to vary drastically. THANKS IN ADVANCE! Rookie Bob

Hello Robert 😊

When I am searching for tickets I compare what the Tuesday flights cost with what the Friday ones cost. I think that ones that go at the beginning of weekends are more expensive, but this is not always the case. Other things like in and out of tourist season count. And sometimes there are special offer flights going at the popular convenient times. I dont think there is any particular rule, but try the Tuesday, Friday test first.

BOB,

Booking tickets online can be an art in itself. DO yourself a favor if you have some time available.

Pick an airline and destination. Check the airfares at various times of the day. You will find that many of them will flucuate throughout the day. We saved over $600 on Icelandic Air by booking our flight right after midnight at the home office. Not sure why they do this, but check it out.

Play around with travel dates (days of the week). Business travelers have a big impact on airfares. As Mel pointed out peak season travel prices skyrocket.

Check airfares one week out, one month out and two months out. You will see a huge difference. Reply to this

Also, if you are using a search engine to find flights, search in different languages. I bought flights to India using www.billigfluege.de The same flights cost more when I searched in English than when I searched in German. Reply to this

hey Bob,

I work for a very well know german airline, and i can tell you booking tickets really doesnt depend on the day of the week or the time for that matter.

If you are searching for low fares book well in advdance, one can book up to 350 days in advance for a ticket at most airlines, second if you are searching closer to the time of travel look at off seasons. For exmple at our airline we have pretty cheap fares to america at the moment.

Just look around there are allot of international airlines and usually flying with airlines like emirates that fly via their home airport is allot cheaper....

If you want to travel from vancouver to china/japan it is less expensive to travel from mid january to march. Its usually low season and there just trying to fill planes. I know the load from Toronto to Europe is very light right now, so you should be able to get a good deal up until march break, then things take off again. Reply to this
