Any suggestions for brand/type of shoes to take on a trip? I'll be in south america for 5 months. the first four months ill be working in mud/rain, grass, getting dirty working at a rescue center high in the ecuador andes. the following month i will be on my feet non stop walking around seeing south america. i'm looking for a really comfortable sneaker that will bode well in the rain and i wont get tired in. of course, i know it matters how it fits me, but i'm planning on finding some good brands and ordering several pairs from zappos and trying them out!! im skeptical with boots, i've never found a pair comfy enough, but suggest away!
thanks!!
p.s. i'm willing to bring more than one pair of shoes... Reply to this

A wise old traveler once shared some profound words of wisdom with me.

"You need to pack two things on any trip--good shoes and a good sense of humor".

Ask 100 travelers there opinion about shoes and you are likely to get 100 different responses.

My only advise about footwear is to find something that works for you. I don't really think there is anything called the perfect shoe for travel. There are so many different variables to consider. I would suggest taking at least two pair if you will be working in wet or muddy conditions. This will give you other pair a day to dry out while weraing the other.

I'm not sure about where you are living, but get out there and try on some shoes. Check return policies. Once you buy them, wear them indoors for a few days to see if they feel right. Echange them if you need to.

I will share that I personally like my Merrell Moabs. They have worked out great for me. Reply to this

I LOVE my Keens. They are by far the best purchase i've ever made in travel gear. they are kinda pricey (about $90) from REI or the like, but SOOO worth it. I took my trekking through the jungles of Thailand for six weeks, and they came out looking like new after a quick washing. I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat if anything ever happened to mine!!
