Goodness me! Mel, it seems I didn't get the memo about these rules either!!
Reply to this That might be a funny thread too. We could make a list to be updated of all those unofficial rules invented to prevent others from expressing their opinions. :D
Reply to this Do people leaving nasty comments ever leave a link to their own blog?
Reply to this OK, this is supposed to be "give us a laugh then".... In my first blog entry about teaching ESL in China I said that my one of biggest challenges was going to be getting the students to understand my jokes. The first comment I got was:
You're setting high standards for success. A good many people fluent in English don't get your jokes, Peter. If your students do, give them an A+.
I thought it was pretty funny.... but then I have known the commentor for about 30 years and he knows my sense of humour....
Reply to this I thought it was pretty funny....
LOL I havent known you for 30 years, but I am finding your post pretty funny. :D
Reply to this Praise indeed coming from someone with a Post Count of 14692 to a person with a Post Count of 6.
Now if I just knew what a Post Count was ,-)
I started reading the thread about mean comments but encountered a link to this one.... I think I will like it a lot more....

Reply to this How come I didn't stumble across this thread earlier?
I have received my fair share of negative and/ or offensive comments on my entries, and as someone said earlier on, I thought at first I was being overly critical in some situations. So I am glad to see that many of you guys are dealing with similar issues.
On that matter, I found that the people getting most worked up about blogs featuring their own country are Chinese (they are very very bad at reading anything but praise for China) and, interestingly, New Zealanders (you would think they are more relaxed, but nope). Did anyone else feel the same?
Reply to this Agree with Ben - why didn't I see this post earlier? I've been utterly deflated by the negative comments I occasionally receive - most hurtful when it's you're own family! 😱 I've been so shaken that I've almost become fearful about receiving any comments at all! But then I look at the examples of largely cowardly anonymous bile provided here and I tend to think I've gotten off lightly.
My own experience: Malaysia! A few negative comments (in pidgin English) about my
less-than-nice review of Islam and Malaysia.
the rich Malaysia of today grows on colonial foundations and is a British-Chinese creation....
Mind you I was inspired by reading a V S Naipaul travel book at the time - and he is no retiring sort when it comes to calling a spade - a spade. Caustic, I call it.
I've shamefully deleted my negative comments - didn't wanna encourage anyone else to have a pop. But I'm encouraged to keep them now - everyone likes a good clash.
Great post btw

Reply to this For my part, I leave all comments on my blogs... good or bad. I think that it is sweet that people take time to post. Just as long as they are not bigoted or hateful and are respectful, their comments stay.
I usually don't get into arguments with my readers too. I just let them be, reply appropriately and leave it at that.
