I would appreciate any recommendations for volunteer, organizations, or missionary work in Peru, Ecuador, or Argentina.
I've been trying to contact Christian missionaries to see about volunteer opportunities in a community. I have also heard about individuals working short-term for orphanages and so forth. Has anyone done volunteer work and/or know of a good organization or person to talk to?
There is so much information on the internet that I am overwhelmed. It is also difficult getting involved when you have never met the people in charge or are aware of what exactly their program does.
I am planning on being in South America for 5 months back packing and want to give back to the people instead of exhibiting total self-absorption. 😊
Reply to this Hi,
I am not sure whether you still need advice on organisations in South America- I volunteered in january for 3 months in Peru with the company Projects Abroad - I had such a brilliant time teaching English in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and I'd really recommend the company as they were so well organised. They sort ou everything for you including accomodation with a local family and also your placement. There are loads of different projects so definitely check out their website as there's lots of information there. I hope you are enjoying travelling- I had the time of my life in Peru.
Hope this helps,
Laura, England
Reply to this We have been following a really wonderful sounding place in Riobamba Ecuador. We are considering going there ourselves, in Feb 2010 for 6 months. You might want to look through their website.

Reply to this Hello Julie 😊
Does the Ark Childrends Home charge fees to volunteers?

Reply to this I have not gone through all the process of applying as a volunteer, so can't answer. My overall impression is that they don't. I have plans to contact a pair of sisters who have been there the last few months volunteering.
