Myself and a few mates are going travelling in September. We're doing 4 weeks in thailand then 2 in australia and 2 in new zealand. I'm unsure how much money we're gonna need to take. We've already got travel in australia paid for (1000km bus pass) and in new zeland we've got travel and accomodation paid as we're doing the magic bus tour.
Was planning on taking £3000 (GBP) with me for the 2 months but i might get paid from my old job while out there and take a credit card as well. Does everyone reckon this will be enough? We are staying on the cheap in hostels, mabe a couple of nights hotel when we arrive. We'll probably go out most evenings for a few drinks and eat out quite a bit.
If anyone has experience of these countries and how much the cost would like to know whether you think £3000 will be enough? Cheers
Also does anone know how easy iti s to take cash out in thailand/oz/nz or do you think we're better off taking cash or travellers cheques.
Cheers everyone
Reply to this Hello Mike 😊
I have been to Thailand 3 times. Last 2 times I was there with my daughter for a month each time. Both times we spent 500 Euros between us for the month. Since I was with a child there were no nights out drinking and partying so you may need more money than we did.

Reply to this Hi Mike,
I think you should be fine - especially considering the exchange rate b/t the GBP and the AUS$, NZ$ and Bhat. A lot of places do not accept traveler's cheques these days or charge quite a high fee for exchanging them. I'd do as much on the credit card as you can. As for taking out cash while there, it really depends on where you are. If you are in the big cities and have a debit/ATM card that is well recognized (e.g. Visa, etc) you should be fine. In the smaller towns in NZ i did have some difficulty finding ATM's that would work with my card. i think if you bring some of each currency with you (always good to have on arrival for taxis and tips as well) and then bring major credit cards and a bank card to withdraw cash while in the major cities, you should be fine. This sounds like a great trip - 3 of my favorite countries in the world!
Reply to this Here is the idea for you-a free holiday. Buy some art whn in thailand and then donate it when you return.
You may get all the expenses of the travel with a tax refund. Good luck! Reply to this
