Hi, I am a Malaysian Chinese, 23 years old, having my travel dreams since I am 13. Currently working in Kuala Lumpur as any other else in this world, after working 1 years after my degree, I really want to get out from there, I want to start travel!

I travel almost all states in Malaysia(because I want to complete my local travel before going out),but the sad part is overall Malaysian salary is lower than the living cost, and I think that now is the best time for me to start travelling overseas, the money is the main factor.

I just resign from my work and I am leaving this month end, anyone can advice should I start travel or should I keep working untill I save up enough money????

Please help.....I hate doing the same old things, seeing the same old things for the past 1 year... Reply to this

Hello Ang 😊

While it is a bonus to find work while travelling, I would not rely on it.
Think of it as a way to boost up your travel money, rather than a way to earn all the travel money you need. I would certainly think seriously about earning more money before going if you can.

Dear Mell,

Thanks for the advice.

Will it be a good idea if i save the money for about 1 months expenses and try to look for part time job there?

*Because I had a friends immigated to Birmingham and his family owns a chinese restaurant, so my idea is to reach there as my first stop point of my euro trip. Then seek for his help to find some part time job there, would it be a good idea? or it just too risky?

If I dont take some risk, I wouldnt achieve my euro dreams......haha.. Reply to this

If you could get to your friends restaurant and your friend is willing to give you a job then I think it may work.
Maybe you would have to work illegally. It might be a good idea to ask your friend if he will hire you illegally. Also consider that the immigration in England are terrible. They may not let you into the country without showing that you have money or a work permit.
It is somewhat risky.
You could find out if you can get a tourist visa for England with less money if somebody sponsors you. Then maybe your friends brother will agree to sponsor you? By sponsoring you he would be agreeing to look after you while you are in England.

Here are some links which may be useful for you.

For Malaysians, all types of visa to the UK must be applied for through http://www.vfs-uk-my.com/

Do all Malaysians need a visa for the UK?

Guidance for Malaysian working holiday makers.

Mell,

Yes I heard from my friends there is a "Holiday Working Visa" valid for 2 years but heard that the interview session was tough. Bank account need to have at least RM10k.

Thanks for your advice ....

Maybe not sponsor,if he willing to offer me a job then it would be a great for me to start the euro trip. But the place I really want to visit is actually is northen europe..denmark,finland, sweden....then the plan now is to save up enough money for the 1st month expenses and applying the holiday visa.

By the way, where you from? Reply to this

Denmark, Finland and Sweden are expensive countries.
I have not been to them yet because of how much they cost.

There is another option I have heard of.
I dont know much about it because I have never tried it.
There is an au pair organisation which finds girls under 30 years old a family to live with in a country they want to visit. In return you would look after their children. I think they would also give you some pocket money and pay for medical insurance. You could try to get a position in Denmark, Finland or Sweden.
They must have a website. Try a google search. Or maybe somebody else here knows of this agency(or maybe there is more than one) and can give the url for them.. Reply to this

Hi Ang,
I have a friend that is from Germany and used to au pair in the U.S. - it's how she got here for a while and then ended up actually moving over here to get married. She is still very close to the family she worked with then. If you can do something like that, it might work well. I did a quick google search and found this link:

http://www.iapa.org/Docs/index/index.php4

I am not sure if it's the same that Mel was referring to but it looks like something to check out!

I used to be an aupair both in UK and USA. USA is much better and friendlier. Try to come here.
Also your country must partecipate in the program. Some countries are not eligible. Not sure about yours. As you said being a local guide can help you to make friends and save money. Thats a good idea!!!! You can offer your service cheaper and agree with them to host you while you are there. I am planning to go to Malaysia! 😊
