Here is a guide that Travelblog made for those who are new to independent travel.
Hello friends! I'm glad that you want to share information that can help us become independent travellers.
Hope that I can share something too!
Reply to this I don't know if this will help. I haven't traveled much out of the US. But there are a couple of things that I find work for me (most of you probably already know this), but I collect whatever store discount cards there are. Most of my food is done at local markets - rarely do I go to restaurants. The other thing is library cards. And most of the time you don't have to have a card, but the internet is usually free at the libraries (I just like the cards). Also, the chamber of commerce and the forestry or parks and recreation district. These places are the first ones that I'll go to if I'm going to spend more than a few days in a place. They'll give me information on accessibility, restaurants and shops that cater to special diets, and sometimes (especially in the smaller towns) whatever local deals I can find for better service and lower costs. And fishing. Yes. XD
Oh! And parks passes. It makes the difference between spending $3 and $15 to get into a place to camp.
