Hello from Uruguay, hello from Montevideo. Another quick update. Sorry for falling behind again. Combo of internet access difficulties and sheer laziness! OK...so W arrived. Together (YAY) we tooled around Buenos Aires. What a great town! Visited markets, neighbourhoods, saw Evita's tomb and enjoyed several lovely cafe's and restaurants...YAY (W wants to add we went to 'Fangio's favourite cafe'). So here we are in Montevideo. Arrived yesterday. Plenty of time to see the town. New and old sites. Great architecture, a real sense of history. The people are very cool too...all walking around with the mate tea 'bombs' and thermos...at least I assume that it's tea! Today we visited historic town of Colonia. Which over the years has been an important Portuguese, Spanish, Argentine & Uruguayan town. Tomorrow we head back to Buenos Aires for the ... read more

After checking out Rosario Argentina for a few days we made our way by bus to Buenos Aries only to catch the ferry accross to Uruguay that same night. The ferry was this big speed boat with a cafeteria, gift shop and the WORST music videos I´ve ever seen, (and that means a lot cause I even like country music!) We arrived in Colonia and had a few fights with bank machines to get money, for some reason they didn´t want to give us any at 10 pm when we still needed to find and check into a hostel for the night. Finally, after walking practically all over town we found a bank that liked us and then we found a hostel, yay! The weird thing about the hostel was that we got there late and ... read more

Ok, So I am a Little behind in my Blogs. what´s new - right?. As I said or meant to say in my last blog is that i flew from Ushuia in the south of Argentina to Buenos Aires. I spent a week or so in Buenos Aires eating good steaks and drinking good cheap wine. I was starting to get stuck (ok, lazy). I did escape for a few days and I went to Uruguay with Dave from Scotland. We took a ferry across the river From BA to Colonia Uruguay and spent the night there. The next day we took a bus to Montevideo and stayed there for a few nights before returning to BA. I left BA a while ago and headed straight to Bolivia. I have been in Sucre Bolivia for about ... read more

Well, here I am in Uruguay. This weekend has been absolutely amazing! I left on Friday morning from Buenos Aires to take the Buquebus (ferry for us English speakers!) over into Colonia. Basically I had scheduled about 7 hours for myself to bum around exploring Colonia. It's an extremely small town, but beautiful. The old city, where I spent the majority of my day, is one of the places that is protected by UNESCO as having International historical value. As I wandered around the city it was strikingly clear how few historical buildings and monuments we have in Oregon. Walking along the water front, I suddenly heard someone call out "Hello, beautiful!" in english. I looked around and it was this kind of grubby looking guy sitting out in front of a house/restaurant. I started talking ... read more

we had a gay old time in uruguay. no, seriously, it was a jolly and happy experience. we took a boat across the rio de la plata from buenos aires to the tiny colonial town of colonia, uruguay. we heard so many good things about colonia that our curiosity brought us here. so how would we best describe it? CUUUUUUTTEEE. you ever notice when a guy sees a cute area, he uses other words besides 'cute' to describe it? "oh this place is tight" "hella nice" "this town is chill" ... problem is, none of those words/phrases can really do it justice, right? well colonia was so cute, there's no other way to explain it. so the best i could do was surround the word with other manlier words. like "man, this damn place is hella ... read more

Our passports prove it. We can stay another 3 months in Argentina with our new tourist visa stamp. Hooray, we are not illegal students any longer. (grin) Back in Buenos Aires after a magnificent weekend in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, I wondered to myself, how much does Buenos Aires weigh? It must weigh tons and tons. So much concrete, so many cars, trucks, machines, buildings, factories, people, dogs. Has anyone ever done a study to see how much cities weigh? Get back to me about that one. Anyway, yes, we are back in BA. Refreshed, relaxed, refriada (stuffed up with the flu), and ready for school tomorrow morning. We forgot to mention that the University hosted all of the first year students and new exchange students at their ‘Club Belgrano’ about 100km out of town. I ... read more

My last entry I had just arrived in Bariloche. Bariloche is what i would call the main hub for travelers setting out to Patagonia. It is a beautiful little town set around a large lake and surrounded by breathtaking snow capped mountains. With all the mountains and lakes in the area it's a haven for trekking enthusiasts. Myself along with Jim and his girlfriend Jynx hiked some of the near by mountains and apart from the cold winds coming off the lakes I enjoyed it but I was finding that I just wasn't that impressed. I had followed the Andes mountains nearly their entire length and I think by then it was a bit of over kill. With my Patagonian adventure just beginning I was forced to make some heavy decisions. Continue south through Patagonia ... read more
