Woke up not feeling too well, but lungs not burning like the night before, probably the altitude, managed to have some breakfast. Another trip with a local operator. First stop was a area with a whole bunch of stone sculptures, and what they meant, and how they were changed and developed by the different people of the area in ancient times. Next stop was a local Sunday market. Thousands of people selling buying and selling heaps of different types of potatoes, vegatables, fish, chickens, pottery, and heaps of other stuff, ... If you wanted to you could pay one of the stall holders 5 soles for them to allow you to take their photo. (I don't like having my photo taken so know how they feel.) The tour group bought some fruit to give as presents ... read more

Up early for the flight from Arequipa to Juliaca (nearest airport to Puno). The flight was only 25 minutes and was surprisingly painless. The plane was modern and there was plenty of leg room. The steward even handed out lollies. Puno is about 3800m above sea level, but I did not feel anything from the thin air initially. In the afternoon I went on a tour with a local operator, no one else from the tour group did, they wisely spent the afternoon doing less strenuous activities. The tour involved going on a bus trip ... read more

SOOO im 22 today...and well lets just say that it wasnt too of an exciting day. We arrived here in Puno, Peru yesterday morning and hoped right on a boat on Lake Titicaca. We spent the day visiting native people who live on floating..yes floating..islands. Then we went to a larger island where we spent the night with a family. They spoke Quechua and only the father knew english so it was a bit difficult. But the day was beautiful and at night they let carolyn, marc and i dress up in their native dress and we went to a party. It was really cool. This morning we woke up and went to a different island where we spent the day. We all got a great tan and just arrived back here in Puno a few ... read more

Firstly, thanks to everyone that has sent messages and left comments. Please be aware that I usually only have a small amount of time to spend on the net checking my messages, so if I don't respond right now, I will when we get stuck in another hole like Nazca and have some spare time. Saturday night, 7pm, we got into Puno, the main Peruvian port on the shore of Lake Titicaca. As soon as we got off the bus we could feel that we were at nearly 13000ft. It was a combination of the dry mouth, the foggy headache, and the amount of effort required to do anything that gave it away. That night consisted of getting a quick bite to eat at a nearby Italian Pizzeria and heading straight to bed. Sunday morning we ... read more
