Up to the Highlands For those following my blog you know I took Sunday off. I was preparing for my trip to Junin, the highlands, the top of the world. Originally we were going to Ancast where Maca harvest was just completed. Martin (MG Natural) has just bought more land in Junin where they are preparing to plant. Our trip is to see the land under cultivation and to file for certification of organic status. Here is what I knew about Maca before this trip. The maca root is cultivated in the Peruvian Andes above 4000 meters (13,000 feet above sea level) where growing conditions are very adverse and with a temperature range of -5 to 2o degrees Celsius. We arrived at Hacienda la Florida on December 8th 2009, by bus from Lima, a gruelling six hour journey with the usual latin music blaring from the radio the whole journey. By the time we had taken a taxi from Tarma the short distance to La Florida it was well past midnight and we were absolutely shattered from our journey from Chachapoyas. We were greeted at the gate and shown our room, and were able to throw off our rucksacks and get some well earned rest. The following morning at about six we heard the sounds of the Hacienda waking, with footsteps above in the kitchen, and voices calling across the yard. Alors milles excuses pour l orthographe d avance...(pas d accent et clavier qwerty...)la bonne excuse..et pour le reste on espere que vous continuerez a nous lire!!! Bon ben voila,on est enfin parti de Lima, en route pour " l aventure", notre taximan limaƱes Julio nous a conseille de partir a 6h40 pour eviter les bouchons et avoir notre bus a 8h en direction de Tarma. Effectivement on a evite les bouchons et nous sommes arrives a 7h00 a l agence de transport Chanchamayo, une petite partie de domino nous fera passer l heure a attendre (c est une toute petite agence mais c est une des seule qui va a Tarma) On en a pour 6h30 de voyage.
