On my way back from Chile to Peru

San Pedro de Atacama was the first stop after we said good bye to Salar de Uyuni desert.
It is small charming town located in the driest desert in the world - the Atacama Desert.
The average altitude of the town is 2450m, which is not as bad as in the Uyuni desert.
I couldn't miss astronomical observatory. The Atacama Desert sky is one of the clearest skies on the planet which creates the heaven for astronomers.

We left San Pedro de Atacama and arrived to Arequipa. In the museum I was told story about very well preserved mummy called Juanita discovered on the Ampato volcano (alt 6380m) in 1995.
She was offered in ritual to the gods - Apu Ampato.

"For many rituals that took place the girl had to travel to Cuzco accompanied by a great court of very important people of the region, being awaited and welcomed in Cuzco by the Inca in person who transmitted his divinity.
She had to travel then to Arequipa area, climb over 6000m above see level.
After great festivities and rituals Juanita had to be put to sleep before a precise blow on her right eyebrow would cause her to die."
She was found in the grave in the sitting position, wrapped in colorfull materials, and surrounded by clay pots and figures.
Unfortunately the mummy is so precious that it is forbidden to take any pictures in the museum.

The Nazca Lines are an enigma. No one has proof who build them or why. There are different theories of it's creation: landing strips for return aliens (extraterrestrials), celestial calendar created by ancient Nazca civilization, used for rituals related to astronomy or map for underground water supplies. Lines were made between 200BC and 600 AD.
The Nazca Lines are located in the Nazca Desert, a high plateau between Nazca town and Palpa. There are various figures of animals, flowers, plants, objects and anthropomorphic figures.
The lines were made by removing iron-oxide gravel which covers the surface of the desert. When it is done, they contrast with light color underneath.
There is no other way to see figures than flying above them. They are hudge! You can see them from Google Earth!!

You can call me coward but I didn't fly over Nazca lines. While traveling I met few other travelers who told me that there are quite a lot accidents due to bad plane maitanance. Maybe it wasn't true but I decided to not to risk plane crash and my motion sickness didn't help as well. I have seen few lines from the high platform!

Pierwszym przystankiem gdzie zatrzymalissmy sie po pustyni Salar the Uyuni bylo miasteczko San Pedro de Atacama.
Jest to male czarujace miasteczko polozone na najbardziej suchej pustyni swiata - de Atacama Desert.
Wysokosc, na ktorej jest ono polozone wynosi ponad 2450m npm, co niejest jeszcze tak zle w porownaniu do Uyuni Desert - ponad 4000m npm.
Odwiedzilam obserwatorium astronomiczne; niebo nad pustynia jest bardzi czyste co stwarza raj dla tych ktorzy interesuja sie astronomia.
Droga mleczna na poludniowej polkuli jest bardziej widoczna, a przy czystym niebie, braku ksiezyca warunki obserwacji sa znakomite. Takiego nieba i tylu gwiazd, planet, plejads nie widzialam nigdzie, nawet w Nowej Zelandii!

Wyruszylismy z San Pedro de Atacama i udalismy sie do Arequipa.
W muzeum opowiedziano mi historie swietnie zachowanej mumii, nazwanej Juanita, odkrytej w 1995 roku na wulkanie Ampato (6380mnpm). Byla ona ofiarowana w rytuale bogu Apu Ampato.
"Juanita przybyla do Cuzco w otoczeniu wielkiego grona bardzo waznych osobistosci. Byla ona tam oczekiwana i przywitana przez przywodce Inkow, ktory przekazal jej swoja boskosc. Po wielu rytualach i obrzedach Juanita musiala wejsc z calym orszakiem na wulkan (ponad 6000mnpm). Upojona alkoholem latwiej mogla zasnac by zaraz potem zastac uderzana ostrym narzedziem w prawy luk brwiowy, co spowodowalo jej smierc". Znaleziona byla w grobie, w pozycji siedzacej, owinieta w kolorowe materialy i otoczona przez gliniane naczynia i figurki.
Niestety mumia Juanita jest tak bezcenna, ze zabronione jest robienie zdjec w muzeum.

Nazca Lines sa zagadka! Nikt nie moze napewno powiedziec kiedy i dlaczego zostaly zrobione. Jest kilka teorii ich powstania: linie ladowania dla powracajacych pozaziemskich istot, naziemny kalendarz ,ktory byl skorelowany z przesileniami wiosenno-zimowymi i obserwacja nieba, mapa podziemnych zrodel wodnych. Linie byly utworzone pomiedzy 200 pne a 400 ne.
Linie Nazca znajduja sie na wysokim plaskowyzu pomiedzy miasteczkiem Nazca i Palpa. Sa to roznorodne figury zwierzat, roslin, kwiatow i innych obiektow. Linie byly utworzone poprzez sciagniecie wierzchniej czerwonawej warstwy ziemi (tlenki zelaza), ktora kontrastuje z biala warstwa ponizej.

Nie ma innego sposobu be obejrzec figury jak tylko z pokladu samolotu. One sa potezne! Mozesz je zobaczyc na Google Earth!!

Mozecie nazwac mnie tchorzem, ale nie latalam nad liniami. Podczas mojej wedrowki spotkalam wielu podroznikow, ktorzy ostrzegali mnie przez wypadkami lotniczymi malych samolocikow w Nazca, ktore nie sa w dobrej kondycji.
Moze to nie jest jednak prawda, ale wolalam nie ryzykowac! Widzialam kilka linii z wysokiej platformy.
