An interesting couple of days just passed... Firstly i´m happy to say that I´m off to the Galapagos tomorrow for 6 days in total, the first two days on the main island, then picking up a liveaboard (luxury class!!) tour for the last four days. Needless to say this is costing me an arm and a leg, in fact an arm and two legs more like!! Secondly, I sort of got over my illness yesterday enough to go for what turned out to be a fun day out to Mitad del Mundo, the ´middle of the world´ 20km north of Quito. Well it was all very touristy, but i got to straddle the equator and the photo to prove it. I didn´t notice any strange effects as I did it and I forgot to go to ... read more

Trying to think of new creative words that don´t repeat myself but basically still cover amazing, awesome etc etc. Todays word then is superific! What a superfantasticico hiking day I have had again. Almost can´t handle the consistent pace of happiness and hiking fatigue buzz. No I think I can. I have two new hard core hiking buddies, Calvin from NZ and Andrew from Brisvegas. We ditched the group today as we are all really keen to walk whenever possible. Thought it might be our first and last chance to really break away so we consulted the travel bible at breakfast and went for the most difficult thing we could fit in a day. They are both over ten years younger than me and gung ho so was a bit worried if I could keep up. ... read more

Hello Last night out with the group was really good fun, Corina the witch was on superb form dancing with Carlos the hamster of a tour guide and there was some very enthusiastic karaoke singing and shape throwing generally (my first peruvian worm). Next morning was interesting, and didnt really happen for me, until check out at 1pm and the official end of the tour. Checked in to a hostel in town called the flying dog with colin and the three girls, then went to get some food, before retiring to bed to lounge and read. The next few days were to be dedicated to rest and relaxation so that i was enthusiastic about getting to a new country... Ended up going for a meal that night that involved the hottest bowl of soup ever created, ... read more

This is a repeat of my last email but people had trouble recieving it so im trying this way instead. Sorry if you have already read it once! Colombia- Ecuador: Exit stamp out of Colombia, check. Forget the Ecuador entry one. Oh dear. At the military roadside check we are informed of our faux par by soldiers in full, intimidating military get up. Back to the border we go, but they are not playing ball as it i now past midnight (technically the next day) which means no stamp. Oh how I love being stuck in no-mans land, a skanky bridge between 2 countries, neither of which letting us in without todays stamp from the other- great. 2 hours later its a little more scary and 4 hours after that, the embassy are involved and we ... read more

Hello Again! Well, now i spend few days in quito and sorounding places. I must say, that for the principal city at 3000meters is a wonderfull city. I saw everything, i guess. Well, i dont need to see more here, if i mist something i am sure i will discover itr next time (when I am going to galapagos...). So, i saw new city, old city, the procession on holly friday with a lot of KKK guys. I also went with the cable cab on 4100 meters to see the real view on the Quito. I have to admit that i fell the altitutude, each stef was harder. Then I went also to the "mitad del mundo". This is like real center of the world, at least ekvator line. On April 2nd I start my vacations.....hehehhe.. and i am enyojing it full time. First I went from Cali to Popayan. This is a small citz, enouth big to see it in one day. There are some places near Popayan wothed to see, but not this time, I left this to places for the next time I visit cali again. After that I went south, with the bus (6 hours) to Pasto, a city qiute close to border to peru. I stayed there also only one day. The way to get there was really interesting. Went to the airport again this morning, wasn´t sure if my bagpack had arrived, but fortunately it did... I was pretty sure it was left behind in Amsterdam and that they would put it on the next plane, but you can never be entirely sure so now I am still quite relieved. In the meantime met with my travelgroup for the coming 36 days... A lot of Brits (never get rid of them :-)), some people from New Zealand and a very German guy... Overall a pretty good group i think - more people will join underway in Lima, Peru. After coming back from the airport we went with a couple of people to ´Mitad del Mundo´which is the equator line (Ecuador is named after this). Funny thing is that they make you do some exercises ... read more

WOO! It's very good to be so easily amused, like we were when we visited the middle of the world. Basically, its a very long line separating the northern and southern hemispheres...and you can stand with your legs on either side, and take pictures and do funny poses, ooo the excitement! I also got my passport stamped, with a stamp which says 'middle of the world!' hahah...well you do have to do the touristy things you know... And then, disaster! We somehow discovered that this line claiming to be the middle of the world, was not actually the middle of the world! Our dreams were shattered into little pieces...apparently, this line was calculated by the incas a very very long tiome ago, and was just a bit wrong. So to console ourselves, we went on a trip ... read more
