Hello, my folks, I don't know but given the beauty and the healthy benefits of the countryside, I will pop the question to you, that is whether the trend of leaving the countryside and go and live in the big cities would change. It seems that people in the countryside live happier, there is less stress and worry about safety, the cost of living is cheaper, well, have you noticed what I am up to? that's what I am going to do in this entry, try to convince you to move to the countryside and leave the chaotic state of the big cities. If I get any follower of my trend, please let me know, I might as well do the same. :) No sé, pero dada la belleza y los beneficios saludables del campo, les ... read more

Hi, this will be a very small entry of a visit to Barrancabermeja, a city in Santander, which seems more of a coastal resort. vallenato a la lata On the Magdalena River The petroleum city, which is the second biggest city in the department is located at 120 kilometres from Bucaramanga. Barrranca is better known for being the largest refinery of oil in our country. Not a place to go sightseeing, well, at least, I don´t think anybody would go there for that mere goal, they do it for work-related reasons; what´s more, there is not much to see, really. I have heard that some people do some water sports but outside the city. In fact, I went there to do some oral exams. Yes, given the boom of petroleum in Barrancabermeja, lots of people have ... read more

Is there any Architecture Tourism? Well, it there exists one, this is it as people come and enjoy the lovely facades and here you will find the nuts and bolts of that very same tourism.… It was for this reason that the village was declared a national monument. The city of the Gentlemen as it is called, San juan de Giron is full of colonial streets thanks to the effort of its citizens for keeping that colonial facade taking us back to the XVI century; thanks God they did that; hence, the white city features a great array of awesome uniform white houses and brown doors and windows. Founded in 1631, the village has also kept its pebbled streets that dress history in a harmonious way of living, making us long for those periods of time ... read more

Dear friends, Sorry for my delay in writing, but my teaching had me too busy over the past year; here, I am going to tell you about Cucuta, a city which is supposed to be the sixth most important city of our country but that given its current economical situation, it might as well be called Macondo, like the forgotten village in Gabriel García Marquez´s One Hundred Years of Solitude. That´s true, Cucuta has suffered a non very positive transformation -to say the least- due to the current events that are creating both chaos and poverty. What´s certain is that the glorious past of the city belongs to that... the past: big changes here, from offering big businesses opportunities and welcoming its Venezuelan neighbours, the city is undergoing its latest trend: a paradox of deportation which ... read more

My dear friends, here´s an entry of El Socorro, a lovely town I visited over the weekend, which was a chance for me to relax within this non-stopping way of overworking and multitasking. For a 15,000-peso bus ticket from Bucaramanga, I decided to try out a historical weekend as the venue demands it, I hope you can share a bit of my relaxation and if you can make it one day to Colombia, come with me to this piece of my lovely country. The Epicentre of the Comuneros Revolution In 1683, Spanish families coming from Vélez, Pamplona, Girón and Chanchón decided to found this village, there in the very heart of the Guane territory. As many villages were created in South America, it all started with a misión church and at the same time, the community ... read more

January 3rd, my sister's birthday found me writing on this blog about the Chicamocha Canyon, which has been having lots of advertising on our Colombian TV stations lately, I hope you like it. The Chicamocha Canyon The Chicamocha Canyon is such an amazing place that it was nominated as a possible candidate within the group of 261 destinations to be named the 7 natural wonders of the world. The erosion was the culprit of this marvellous accident of nature that nothing has to envy the North American Colorado Canyon as ours is even deeper. Yeah, to be added to your trivial pursuit repertoire, the Chicamocha Canyon is the second largest in the world. The temperature is perfect for a day out: lovely breezes and a scorching sun; Fluctuating temperatures from 11°C to 32°C from day to ... read more

Finally got out of Medellin and got on the road... and it felt good. there is nothing quite like the feeling of not really knowing where you are going, but just going there anyway. Arrived pretty late in bucaramanga and caught a taxi to the hostel. I was a little nervous about the taxi ride, as I didn't know what the city was going to be like. It turns out though, the taxi driver was super friendly, as are most people in Colombia really. Had a brilliant conversation with old mate Nelson on the 20 minute or so cab ride. For some reason it was ridiculously cheap, only $8000 COP, $4.50AUD. I think maybe he just liked the chat and gave me the Colombian price. Good bloke anyway. I stayed in Kasi Guane, British bloke and ... read more
