A one-night sail transported us to San Antonio (Santiago), Chile for our Friday, January 20, 2023 day in port. I had signed up for the “Easy San Antonio & Villages by the Sea” Optional Excursion which began on board at the World Stage at 0830. Given that I usually have my coffee delivered at 0700 and set out for breakfast at the Lido Café about 0800, an 0830 meeting time wouldn’t allow much time for breakfast, so I opted to have room service deliver a full breakfast, as I had done once before under the same circumstances. Over the decades, Holland America has perfected the art of moving people quickly and efficiently. Upon arrival at the World Stage, each participant is given a colored sticker with a number to affix to his/her shirt. My sticker was ... read more

The Port of San Antonio. Nice breakkie again at the Hostal , need to change up the menu a bit though. 3 seatings, always the same. I can remember travelling the UK and after 3 or 4 English breakfasts in a row at B&B's I just needed something different. Kate did a good packing job and we grabbed the Metro to the Bus Terminal, Pullman line. We are getting proficient at transit. Assigned us seats at a total cost of only $14 for the pair on a 1 hr 30 min trip The bus was a late model unit, clean, seemed to be in good repair, and the driver spoke a little English. The ride was uneventful, not much to look at, farming area , we got to see where the beauty strawberries are grown! Different ... read more

So its been a busy week. We moved from our hostels to Homestay, where we live with Chilean families. We moved in on Wednesday, and I got my Bip card, a Santiago transit card, and a new phone. On Friday, we took a trip from Catolica to Algarrobo, a little beach town on Chile's coast. We bonded as a group and learned about our two professors, the outgoing director and the incoming professor. I'd like to give a shout-out to Professors Fransisco Lomeli and Luis Martin-Cabrera, who worked so hard to make this all possible. Algarrobo was amazing, and we bonded and got to know each other really well. At Algarrobo, we were at a hotel where we were given a nice introduction to Chilean culture and wine, Cueca dancing and "Gato" wine. When we got ... read more

Also wieder halb neun im Club treffen.
